With the Grande Depart set for Saturday, July 5, the 2025 Tour de France is about to begin a three-week war of attrition. Cycling’s biggest event of the year, is must-watch TV for the next few weeks as we see Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard battle for the Yellow Jersey for a fourth straight year.
Both of these cyclists have grown up in front of our very eyes in the Tour, and Pogacar had won the White Jersey four straight years before he aged out of the competition.
Remco Evenepoel ended up winning the best Young Rider competition last year, and is set to defend the White Jersey this year. The two-time Olympic gold medalist is the odds-on favorite to win this competition once again. However, he will face some rising starts that have been surprise revelations this year.
Let’s take a look at the latest cycling odds and make our 2025 Tour de France White Jersey predictions.
What is the White Jersey in the Tour de France?
The White Jersey represents the best young rider in the Tour de France. It’s the newest of the four primary competitions in the Grand Tour along with the Yellow Jersey (General Classification), Green Jersey (Points), and Polka Dot Jersey (Mountains).
This competition began in 1975, but was excluded from the Tour de France from 1989 to 1999. Eventually, it was brought back to the race and has been an exciting competition for the last 25 years. This jersey represents some of the best young cyclists and potential superstars of the future.
To qualify for this competition, a cyclist can’t turn 26 the year that the Tour is held. In 2024, Pogacar was not eligible for the White Jersey since he turned 26 in September of that year.
The win the best Young Rider Classification, eligible cyclists must first meet the age requirements and finish with the fastest overall time for the 21-stage event.

Tour de France White Jersey Contenders
The following cyclists are the most realistic contenders for the White Jersey competition:
Remco Evenepoel (-140)
Last year was Remco Evenepoel’s first appearance in the Tour de France. His form got better over the three-week race as he finished third overall and first in this competition.
This year, Evenepoel didn’t start racing until April due to a training crash in late 2024. He’s showed some progress and aims to be in peak form for the Tour de France.
The Belgian star won De Brabantse Pijl and followed that up with a 3rd in the Amstel gold Race, 9th at La Fleche-Wallone and a 59th at Liege-Bastogne-Liege.
He returned for the Criterium du Dauphine in Jine and finished 4th overall. His most recent appearance came last week where he won the Belgian National ITT.
Evenepoel is the man to beat for this competition. If all things go according to expectations, then he will finish third in the GC standings and well ahead of any other young rider.
Florian Lipowitz (+225)
Don’t look now, but Borah has a star in the making with Florian Lipowitz. He will be ready to take over as the GC leader if Primoz Roglic falters at all. And, let’s face it, Roglic has had a lot of bad luck in the Tour de France over recent years.
Lipowitz finished 2nd at Paris-Nice, 4th in the Tour of Basque Country, and third at the Criterium du Dauphine this year. He looked great when competing against the sport’s best like Pogacar and Vingegaard.
This will be his first Tour de France appearance, so we will have to see how Borah deploys him. My guess is that Lipowitz will be the secret weapon and really make a run up the GC standings in the third week after Roglic has troubles once again.
Carlos Rodriguez (+700)
Was my pick to win the White Jersey last year, after finishing 5th overall in the GC standings for the 2023 Tour de France. He took a step back last year and finished 7th overall, and second in this competition once again.
Rodriguez got off to a slow start this year due to an injury. However, he seems to be rounding into form as the Spanish rider finished 6th at Tour de Romandie and 9th in the Criterium du Dauphine.
It appears that Rodriguez will be the leader of INEOS and get the full support of the team. That wasn’t the case last year as there were some questionable tactics by this squad.
With that said, I think Rodriguez could flirt with another Top 5 finish this year if he’s in good form. He certainly will give Evenepoel a run for this competition in the third week of the Grand Tour.
Mattias Skjelmose (+1200)
Like Lipowitz, Mattias Skjelmose took a big step towards becoming an elite rider in the sport by putting together a strong season so far. The 24-year-old was 5th at the Tour of Basque Country and won the Amstel Gold Race.
His most recent appearance was a small event – Andorra MoraBanc Classica which he won. Skjelmose will be the leader if Lidl Trek in regards to the GC competition. It will be interesting to see how this team divides its support for GC and the Green Jersey with Jonathan Milan who is favored to win that competition.
Skjelmose has proven that he can ride solo with the best in the sport. However, three-weeks is a long race and we’ll need to see how he has improved from his 2023 finish of 29th.
Lenny Martinez (+3300)
I’m really high on Lenny Martinez and feel he has a chance at success in this year’s Tour de France even if he’s riding in support of Santiago Buitrago.
Quite honestly, he’s France’s best shot at any rider winning a major competition this year. Not only do I think the 21-year-old can contend for the White Jersey, but I also think he is a sneaky bet for the Polka Dot Jersey as well.
Martinez won stages at Paris-Nice, Tour de Romandie and the Criterium du Dauphine this year already. He also finished in the Top 5 for both La Fleche Wallone and the Volta a Catalunya.
I’m not sold on Buitrago being the best rider for Bahrain and I think the road will decide that Martinez is the man for this squad.
Tour de France White Jersey Predictions
I think that next year’s competition will be even more exciting that this year’s White Jersey competition as Evenepoel will age out but Martinez, Rodriguez, Skjelmose and Lipowitz will all be eligible. It will definitely be an epic battle.
With that said, this competition is Evenepoel’s to lose. I believe that even if he’s less than 100% and falters to finish on the podium for a second straight year, he will still win this competition by a few minutes.
Keep in mind, Evenepoel will take minutes out of these contenders in the Time Trials. And, he will definitely be able to hang with all of these contenders in the mountains. Now, he will most likely fall behind Pogacar and Vingegaard, but he will be the best of the rest and that includes also finishing as the Best Young Rider.
Bet: Remco Evenepoel (-140)
