NFL Week 5 Odds and Predictions 2026: Picks for Every Game

The byes start here. Carolina and Kansas City sit, fifteen games are played, and for the first time this season two teams are preparing on a different clock from everyone else.

That is a bigger change than it sounds. From this week until the end of November, no two teams are on the same schedule, and every comparison between records carries an asterisk nobody writes down.

NFL Week 5 at a Glance

  • First byes of the season: Carolina and Kansas City
  • Fifteen games, five of them inside a division
  • A second 9:30 AM kickoff, the international window again
  • Only three interconference games, the fewest so far

The Take: The schedule stops being fair

A bye is worth something, and it is worth less than the number of people talking about it implies. The rest is minor; the second week of preparation against one opponent is the real asset, and it lands on the team coming off the bye rather than the one facing them.

Our view: the team to fade is not the one that just rested, it is the one that just played a short week and now travels. That combination is priced as though the two things cancel. They do not.

Every Game, and What Actually Decides It

Thursday, October 8 · 8:15 PM ET

Conference

A conference fixture, which is to say it counts twice: once now, once in the tiebreakers. Both sides lost the same practice days on the short week. What changes is how much can be installed, which punishes whoever planned to be clever. The obvious side is the popular side, and those are not always the same bet.

Sunday, October 11 · 9:30 AM ET

Interconference

Non-conference, played once every four years by rotation, so neither side has much recent tape on the other. A 9:30 AM ET kickoff from abroad. Both teams are out of routine, which is the point and also the reason to be careful with it. Our read: the line that opens is not the line that settles, and the gap is the whole edge.

Sunday, October 11 · 1:00 PM ET

Divisional

Inside the division, which makes it worth more than a game in the standings, and everyone in the building knows it. First window of the day, on a board full of them. We are interested in this one late, not early.

Sunday, October 11 · 1:00 PM ET

Conference

Conference, not division: no rematch to correct it, which makes the single result heavier than it feels. A one o’clock start, one of a crowded slate, which is where an edge is easiest to find and hardest to notice. We think the honest answer is that this one is close, and close games are where prices get lazy.

Sunday, October 11 · 1:00 PM ET

Conference

A conference game. Nothing head-to-head to win, but conference record separates teams level on wins. 3 hours east for the visitor. Nobody notices it in warm-ups; it turns up in the fourth quarter. We would leave this alone until the injury report lands.

Sunday, October 11 · 1:00 PM ET

Conference

Conference game. The winner takes a game the loser cannot get back from anywhere else. Played indoors under a roof that does not open, so the weather is out of it entirely. Our view: the number will move more than the matchup warrants.

Sunday, October 11 · 1:00 PM ET

Conference

In the conference. It will be a line on a tiebreaker sheet in January and nobody will remember the afternoon. The early window, where the schedule puts games it does not expect to argue about. Our view: this is the sort of game people are certain about for no good reason.

Sunday, October 11 · 1:00 PM ET

Conference

A conference fixture with no return game, so whatever this settles, it settles once. A one o’clock start, one of a crowded slate, which is where an edge is easiest to find and hardest to notice. We would rather have the points here than the opinion.

Sunday, October 11 · 1:00 PM ET

Divisional

Division football, which in practice means fewer surprises and smaller margins than the talk suggests. First window of the day, on a board full of them. We would want a reason to be on the favourite here beyond the fact that they are the favourite.

Sunday, October 11 · 4:05 PM ET

Divisional

In the division, where the margin matters as much as the result once the tiebreakers are counted. Covered but not enclosed: the canopy keeps the rain off and lets the air through. Our read: this is a total to look at before it is a side.

Sunday, October 11 · 4:25 PM ET

Divisional

Division game. The loser does not just drop one, it hands over the tiebreaker as well. The four o’clock slot, competing for the same screens as everything else in it. Our read: the total tells you more about what the books expect than the side does.

Sunday, October 11 · 4:25 PM ET

Conference

Same conference, no tiebreaker, but it moves the conference record that seeds the bracket. Heading 2 zones west. Kickoff feels late to the travelling side, which is the version of jet lag nobody complains about. Our view: the public will be on one side of this by Friday, and that is worth knowing before Sunday.

Sunday, October 11 · 4:25 PM ET

Divisional

First of two in the division, which makes it the half of the pair where information is worth most. In the late window, which means a full afternoon of results before anyone kicks off. Our view: wait for the number rather than the news.

Sunday, October 11 · 8:20 PM ET

Interconference

Across conferences, which usually means two unfamiliar teams and a market leaning on reputation to fill the gap. A retractable roof, which takes the weather out of the question if they want it out. We think the market is closer to right here than the talk suggests.

Monday, October 12 · 8:15 PM ET

Interconference

A non-conference game: the standings feel it, the tiebreakers never do. 3 time zones west for the visitor. The body clock reads later than the scoreboard, and that is the friendlier version of this trip. We would take the home side’s price more seriously than the home side’s reputation.
