Chandler is the wild card for Pittsburgh. His ERA is not clean, and the 41 walks in 68 innings are a major concern at Coors. Free passes are dangerous anywhere, but in Denver they can quickly become three-run innings. The strikeout stuff is real, though, and if he can keep the ball on the ground, Pittsburgh has the better starter profile.

The Rockies are buried in the standings, but the offense is not dead. Colorado just put up six runs at Wrigley and has been hitting the ball hard over the past week. Hunter Goodman has 21 home runs, Troy Johnston is hitting over .300, Willi Castro has been productive lately, and Sterlin Thompson just had a two-homer game. The problem, as usual, is pitching. Freeland has had a brutal season, with a 7.98 ERA and a 1.70 WHIP. His command has not been sharp enough, and the contact quality has been too loud. Against a Pirates lineup that gets on base and has enough left-right balance, this is a tough matchup.
Colorado’s injury list also limits the upside. Kris Bryant, Mickey Moniak, Brenton Doyle, Jordan Beck, Jose Quintana, Chase Dollander, and several arms remain out. The Rockies can absolutely win a Coors Field shootout, but they need Freeland to keep this from becoming a bullpen game by the fourth inning.

The biggest edge belongs to Pittsburgh’s offense against Freeland. The Pirates are not a perfect lineup, but they are built well for this park. They put the ball in play, draw walks, and have enough gap power to take advantage of the huge outfield. That is exactly the kind of profile that travels to Coors.
Colorado’s offensive case is also real. The Rockies rank well in batting average and doubles, and the recent power surge cannot be ignored. Chandler’s walk rate gives Colorado a path to crooked innings if he starts pitching from behind. Goodman, Johnston, Castro, Thompson, and TJ Rumfield can all hurt mistakes.
The total is high, but it is high for a reason. Coors Field, warm weather, Freeland’s season-long struggles, Chandler’s walk issues, and two bullpens that can be forced into early work all point toward scoring. The only real hesitation is that 11.5 already prices in plenty of altitude tax.
From an MLB betting guide perspective, this is a game where the side and total are connected. If Pittsburgh wins, it probably does it by scoring early against Freeland. If Colorado wins, it likely needs Chandler to give away traffic and the game to open up. Either way, runs should not be hard to find.

I lean Pirates moneyline at -143. Pittsburgh has the better lineup structure, the better pitching staff overall, and the more trustworthy form after two straight wins. Chandler is not a sure thing, but he has more upside than Freeland and can at least miss bats when he is ahead.
The Pirates run line at +108 is playable, but I prefer the moneyline. Coors Field has a way of creating late chaos, and Colorado’s offense is hot enough to make a backdoor cover possible. If you want a plus-money swing, Pittsburgh -1.5 makes sense, but it carries more late-inning risk than usual.
The total leans Over 11.5, even at a big number. Freeland’s current form is hard to trust, Chandler’s walk rate is dangerous in this park, and both offenses have enough contact to keep innings alive. A 7-5 type score is very realistic, and my projection lands right around Pirates 7, Rockies 5.
