The next Olympic women’s field hockey tournament is at the Los Angeles 2028 Games, from Thursday, July 13, to the gold medal match on Saturday, July 29, 2028, all at Carson Field. The Netherlands are the champions to beat: they won Paris 2024 on a shoot-out against China, their fifth Olympic women’s title.

The LA28 women’s schedule
LA28 has published a 12-team women’s tournament, and its competition schedule (version 4.0, dated July 29, 2026) sets these dates. All times are Pacific.

The women’s pool play starts on July 13, a day before the Games open on July 14. The play-in round is new against the Paris format, where 12 teams went from two pools of six straight to the quarterfinals. LA28 lists the schedule as subject to change until the Games end.
How Paris 2024 finished
China led the final from the sixth minute, when Chen Yi scored, and held the lead until Yibbi Jansen converted a penalty corner in the 51st minute. The match ended 1-1 on August 9, 2024, at the Yves-du-Manoir stadium, and the Netherlands won the shoot-out 3-1. Pien Sanders, Maria Verschoor and Marijn Veen scored for the Dutch, and goalkeeper Anne Veenendaal made three saves.

Argentina took bronze by beating Belgium 3-1 in a shoot-out after a 2-2 draw. The Netherlands men won gold a day earlier, which made the Dutch the first nation to win both Olympic hockey titles at the same Games, according to the International Hockey Federation (FIH).
What the record says about the favorite
The FIH counts four Netherlands golds in the last five women’s tournaments. China, beaten 3-0 by the Dutch in the Paris pool stage, took them to a shoot-out in the final and matched its Beijing 2008 silver. Argentina have medaled in six of their last seven Olympic appearances.
