This is one of the more interesting entertainment betting markets to wager on, seeing as the top sportsbooks don’t always know how to price it – and some big upsets do happen. If you want to know which favorites to back and which underdogs have a chance, I suggest perusing this Tony Awards betting guide.
Need more advice? Check out what the top handicappers available on the internet have to say about who will win at the Tony Awards this year. With that, let’s look at the latest 2025 Tony Awards odds and come away with some winner predictions.
What Is A Tony Award?
The Tony Awards have been around since 1947, with the sole goal of honoring the best Broadway acts and performers. The Oscars of stage theater show pays homage to the best plays, musicals, and individual Broadway talent, with a group of roughly 800 members of the theater community deciding on the winners.
Unlike an award show like The Razzies, this is one of the most prestigious entertainment events of the year, and is easily the top awards show for theater folk.
When Are The Tony Awards?
The Tony Awards happen once a year, usually in summer. The 2025 Tony Awards will go down on Sunday, June 8th, at 8:00 pm EST. This year’s awards will be held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, New York.
How To Watch the Tony Awards?
Wondering where to watch the Tony Awards? Most people can simply tune into CBS, but if you prefer to stream the Tony Awards, your options are basically endless. Paramount+ is one of the top options for watching the Tony Awards, but other services such as YouTube TV, Hulu TV, and FuboTV will also grant you access.

As you can see, many of the major Tony Awards betting categories appear to be spoken for. Upsets can and do happen, but some of these favorites seem to have things locked up.
Cole Escola, for instance, has staggering -1000 odds. If he were to lose, it’d be a legit shock to the system at this year’s Tony Awards. There are definitely favorites that are no sure things, of course, as Oh, Mary! has even odds to win for Best Play, and Nicole Scherzinger (-150) is the second weakest favorite you can bet on.
There is still value no matter where you look. If those two bets hit they return really good value, while if any of the other favorites miss, there will be an underdog elsewhere you wish you’d wagered on.

Tony Awards Predictions
Check out our predictions for the 78th Tony Awards:
Best Play
- Oh, Mary! (EVEN)
- The Hills of California (+150)
- John Proctor Is The Villain (+300)
- Purpose (+800)
- English (+2000)
The race to win the Best Play at the 2025 Tony Awards is on, and it’s a tight one. Oh, Mary! is presently in the lead, and it’s worth noting that while it has EVEN odds right now, it spiked from +150 not too long ago.
That said, this is not a clear cut favorite, even though it is critically acclaimed with a 93.6% rating. That’s Hamilton territory for those keeping score at home, and it certainly is a fun play, with Cole Escola leading the charge in a funny tale about Mary Todd and Abraham Lincoln.
But is it the top play of the year? It’s at least debatable that The Hills of California and John Proctor is the Villain (83%) have a shot here. Sadie Sink is in the mix for Best Actress in a Play due to her performance here, while it’s lauded as a “feminist masterpiece” by some and viewed as a darkhorse for play of the year.
It’s a fun thought, but if we’re talking about a critically acclaimed play that has taken over Broadway, made it’s star a rising sensation, and had everyone clutching their ribs from laughter, then Oh, Mary! is about as obvious a pick as it gets.
Remember how I mentioned that this play’s odds spiked? It’s fair to say they didn’t spike enough. Oh, Mary! is the best value bet going into the 2025 Tony Awards and one bettors should be pouncing on as soon as possible.
Bet: Oh, Mary! (EVEN)
Best Actor in a Play
- Cole Escola – Oh, Mary! (-1000)
- George Clooney – Good Night & Good Luck (+900)
- Daniel Dae Kim – Yellow Face (+1000)
- Jon Michael Hill – Purpose (+1200)
- Harry Lennix – Purpose (+3000)
- Louis McCartney – Stranger Things: The First Studio (+3000)
While I will definitely toe the line in some Tony Awards betting markets in the name of value, I won’t dare go against the grain when it comes to predicting who will win Best Actor in a Play.
George Clooney deserves recognition for reviving his character in Good Night & Good Luck (and successfully so), but he’s miles behind the favored Cole Escola.
Escola leads a controversial cabaret that meshes real life with fantasy, while his over the top Mary will have you laughing every step of the way. This is Escola’s baby, and he took it to amazing heights while keeping viewers on the edge of their seat with his brilliant turn as Mary.
This is the stuff Tonys legends are made of. Put simply; there isn’t a true challenger in the lot.
Bet: Cole Escola (-1000)
Best Actor in a Musical
- Darren Criss – Maybe Happy Ending (-300)
- Jonathan Groff – Just in Time (+400)
- Andrew Durand – Dead Outlaw (+700)
- Tom Francis – Sunset Blvd (+900)
- Jeremy Jordan – Floyd Collins (+1500)
- James Monroe Iglehart – Wonderful World: The Louis (+2000)
It’s not the Grammys, but anytime you are in the running to win for any affiliation with a musical at the Tony Awards, it’s kind of a big deal.
That’s why Darren Criss is a fun bet at -300, as he is extremely deserving thanks to his work in the ultra successful Maybe Happy Ending. It only helps that he also directed the musical, a South Korean hit that follows helper-bots Oliver and Claire in 21st century Seoul.
Maybe Happy Ending has a blistering 89.3% rating and asks important questions about love, connection, and memory. Through it all, Criss leads with resounding charm, perfectly bouncing off of his co-star.
Jonathan Groff and Andrew Durand are viable value bets, but fall a bit short of the Criss’s bar.
Bet: Darren Criss (-300)
Best Actress in a Play
- Sarah Snook – The Picture of Dorian Gray (-800)
- Sadie Sink – John Proctor Is The Villain (+400)
- LaTanya Richardson – Purpose (+1000)
- Laura Donnelly – The Hills of California (+1200)
- Mia Farrow – The Roommate (+1500)
While there is some cause for pause with Criss due to his Tony Awards odds, there’s virtually no doubt that Sarah Snook is taking home the award for Best Actress in a Play.
Sadie Sink was fantastic in John Proctor is the Villain and has a mild narrative going for her as a first-time Tony nominee, but this is Snook’s trophy to lose.
Snook was stellar in The Picture of a Dorian Gray, executing a legit tour de force as several characters in a riveting one-woman show. Snook takes a true classic and flips it on its side (in the best way possible), earning herself and the show an 83% score at Broadway World.
Bet: Sarah Snook (-800)
Best Actress in a Musical
- Nicole Scherzinger – Sunset Blvd (-150)
- Audra McDonald – Gypsy (+150)
- Jasmine Amy Rogers – BOOP! The Musical (+800)
- Jennifer Simard – Death Becomes Her (+1200)
- Megan Hilty – Death Becomes Her (+1600)
The 46-year old Nicole Scherzinger has certainly come a long way from her days as the frontwoman for The Pussycat Dolls. Not that she should take heat for success in a girl-only pop group, but the fact that she’s favored to claim a Tony in 2025 tells you she’s finally being taken seriously.
Known mostly for her singing chops, Scherzinger took her talent to the next level when she gave Broadway a try, and knocked it out of the park as Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard. Despite her stellar performance, the show only scored a 71% and she’s not a runaway favorite.
I think she’s a fine bet, but this is her first go-around at Broadway and a titan of the industry like Audra McDonald is not going to be easy to beat. McDonald has far more experience at 54, has already claimed six Tony awards, and also happened to be fantastic in Gypsy.
McDonald was arguably better than Scherzinger, and her show hit a much better rating at 83%. Given the competition and value at hand, McDonald feels like a slam dunk.
Bet: Audra McDonald (+150)
Best Musical
- Maybe Happy Ending (-600)
- Death Becomes Her (+500)
- Dead Outlaw (+800)
- Operation Mincemeat (+1400)
- Buena Vista Social Club (+1600)
This is one of several Tony Awards betting markets that seem better off left alone. Maybe Happy Ending has an elite 89.2% critics rating and pulls in with overwhelming -600 odds.
As mentioned before, this is a unique tale about love and brutal decisions, and it’s made more interesting considering it’s about two androids. Oddly enough, using two non-humans to tell a very human story makes it even more powerful and thought-provoking.
The direction, story-telling, and performances are all spot on, to the point where betting against this musical seems like a losing endeavour.
If I had to pick a pivot, it would have to be Dead Outlaw at +800. Death Becomes her has the second best odds, but it’s a story we already know. Dead Outlaw has a prestigious team and has already garnered awards at the Drama Desk Awards and others.
That said, all roads lead to Maybe Happy Ending this year.
Bet: Maybe Happy Ending (-600)
Best Director of a Play
- Sam Pinkleton – Oh, Mary! (-350)
- Danya Taymor – John Proctor Is The Villain (+200)
- Kip Williams – The Picture of Dorian Gray (+700)
- Sam Mendes – The Hills of California (+1400)
- Knud Adams – English (+2200)
One Tony Awards favorite I really like is Sam Pinkleton for his brilliant work as the director of Oh, Mary! The hilarious and risk-taking retelling of the Lincolns took Broadway by storm, and is up for numerous other awards at the Tonys.
Pinkleton feels like a lock even if his odds to win Best Director of a Play don’t necessarily say as much. The -350 price is still rock solid, however, while Pinkleton executed the impossible balance of technical precision, elite vision, and creative storytelling in the face of utter chaos and normally rigid material.
You could make a mild case for Danya Taymor as a pivot, of course. John Proctor is the Villain was masterfully done and the +200 odds are appealing. Regardless, this is Pinkleton’s award to lose.
Bet: Sam Pinkleton (-350)
Best Director of a Musical
- Jamie Lloyd – Sunset Blvd (-350)
- Darren Criss – Maybe Happy Ending (+200)
- Christopher Gattelli – Death Becomes Her (+1000)
- David Cromer – Dead Outlaw (+1000)
- Saheem Ali – Buena Vista Social Club (+2000)
Much like we did with the Golden Globes, where we bet on an upset for Best Director, I really like the value of targeting someone other than Jamie Lloyd for this category.
There’s no denying that Lloyd would be deserving, but Darren Criss is a pretty great value here at +200. I think the odds tell us this is a close race, but it’s pretty interesting to note that Maybe Happy Ending is a huge -600 favorite to win for Best Musical.
So, why is there such a gap there, but the director of that musical isn’t favored to win? It isn’t totally abnormal for a director and musical to not align, but the value is too good to ignore here.
Bet: Darren Criss - Maybe Happy Ending (+200)
