Soccer Betting Guide: 1X2, Asian Handicaps and Totals

Soccer betting starts from the three-way result: home win, draw or away win, with the draw a live outcome in every league match. On top of that sit draw no bet, Asian handicaps, goal totals, both teams to score and player props, and the season-long markets on who wins each league and cup.

The biggest results on the record are Spain’s 1-0 extra-time win over Argentina in the World Cup final at MetLife Stadium on July 19, 2026, and Arsenal’s Premier League title in 2025-26 with 85 points. Paris Saint-Germain won the 2026 Champions League final against Arsenal on penalties, 4-3 after a 1-1 draw.

The main soccer bets

  • Three-way moneyline (1X2): home, draw or away. A bet on either team loses if the match is drawn after 90 minutes plus stoppage time.
  • Draw no bet: your team to win, with the stake returned on a draw.
  • Double chance: two of the three outcomes in one bet, such as home or draw.
  • Asian handicap: a goal line on one team, such as -0.5 or +1, which removes the draw or turns it into a refund.
  • Totals: over or under a number of goals, such as 2.5.
  • Both teams to score: yes or no.
  • Props: a player to score, cards, corners.

FanDuel’s house rules, approved by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission on March 27, 2025, say soccer bets are “settled on the basis of 90 minutes play unless otherwise stated,” and that 90 minutes “includes time added on by referee for stoppages.” Extra time and penalties do not count. The World Cup final was 0-0 after 90 minutes and Ferran Torres scored in the 106th, so a 90-minute bet on either team lost and the draw won, even though Spain lifted the trophy.

One weekend, graded

The Premier League games of September 20, 2026 show how the same result pays differently across markets:

MatchScore1X2 resultOver 2.5Both teams to score
Sunderland at Manchester City5-3Home winYesYes
Crystal Palace at Leeds United0-0DrawNoNo
Manchester United at Fulham1-1DrawNoYes
Liverpool at AFC Bournemouth0-1Away winNoNo

Two of the four ended level. A draw no bet stake on either side of the Leeds and Fulham games came back, and a +0.5 Asian handicap on either team in those two games won.

Asian handicaps in practice

An Asian handicap gives one team a goal start or deficit, and FanDuel’s rules describe three kinds. A half-goal line cannot push: Liverpool -0.5 at Bournemouth won with the 1-0 result, and would have lost on a draw. A whole-goal line refunds on that exact margin: Manchester City won 5-3, by exactly two goals, so City -2 was a push and the stake came back.

The third kind is the split line, where the stake is divided equally between a whole-goal and a half-goal handicap. FanDuel’s example is a $100 bet on -1.0 and -1.5: a one-goal win refunds the $50 on -1.0 and loses the $50 on -1.5.

The leagues and what they give you

The Premier League’s 2025-26 table, as ESPN has it, finished with Arsenal on 85 points from 26 wins, 7 draws and 5 losses, ahead of Manchester City on 78 and Manchester United on 71. This page quotes no league winner price for 2026-27.

MLS runs its own calendar, with a regular season and then the playoffs. The last MLS Cup, on December 6, 2025, was won by Inter Miami, 3-1 against the Vancouver Whitecaps at Chase Stadium. Each club has its page under our MLS teams.

What to look at before a bet

Read form over the last several matches, with home and away apart, and read goals against as well as results. Manchester City beat Sunderland 5-3 on September 20 and still conceded three at home: a result that paid City backers, over 2.5 and both teams to score all at once.

The three-way price is also where the book’s margin hides. Add up the implied chances of home, draw and away and the total comes to more than 100%; the amount above 100 is the book’s share. Our odds guide shows how to turn each price into a chance, and it applies to all three outcomes.
