2021 CFL Futures: Most Passing Yards Odds and Predictions

The 2021 CFL regular season gets underway the fist week in August with four games on the slate. The league suspended play in 2020 and this year’s schedule calls for 14 games plus three rounds of playoffs at the end of the year.

The rust might be rather thick given the long layoff but that did not stop the online sportsbooks from releasing some CFL player performance betting odds. Leading the way with avid CFL bettors are 2021 CFL futures for the most passing yards by a quarterback.

The posted odds cover the nine projected starting quarterbacks in the CFL this season. The following three offer the best betting value based on the actual odds.

Most CFL Passing Yards: Top-Valued Favorite

The betting board for this CFL player futures singles out two clear favorites. Of those two players, my top-valued play would be the Calgary Stampeders’ starter Bo Levi Mitchell (+275) over the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ Cody Fajardo (+200).

Mitchell has always been one of my favorite CFL gunslingers during the course of his career. He has also played for the most consistent team in the league. Calgary did take a step backwards in 2019. However, I think this team is poised to make a Grey Cup title run in 2021.

Mitchell only started 11 games in 2019 due to injuries and he threw for 3464 passing yards while completing 274 of his 415 passing attempts. The season before, he was third on the list with 5124 passing yards in 18 games.

Most CFL Passing Yards: Top-Valued Contender

Stretching the value in the middle of the pack, I am going with Mike Reilly as my top-valued contender. He led the CFL in passing yards in 2018 while playing for Edmonton. Moving to the British Columbia Lions ahead of the 2019 season, Reilly slipped to fifth on the list with 3897 total passing yards in 16 games.

Now that he has settled in with BC, Reilly may be the Lions’ only chance to post a winning record in the highly competitive West Division. If he can return to form, he has already demonstrated the ability to move the ball down the field through the air.

The Lions have the longest odds of any team in the West to win this season’s Grey Cup. However, that will not stop this offense from using its only real strength to its full advantage. Check out our 2021 CFL win totals best bets.

Most CFL Passing Yards: Top-Valued Longshot

As the starting quarterback for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Zach Collaros could be the top valued pick on the board at +1200. The Blue Bombers won the CFL title in 2019 and they are second-favorites to win again in 2021 behind the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The main reason for the much longer odds on Collaros, as another quarterback that can rack up the passing yards, is his inability to stay in the staring lineup due to injuries. He only played in one game for Winnipeg in 2019. The good news is low wear and tear on his body. The risk is another season-ending injury before he has the chance to even get started.
