We’re going to analyze the 2023 MLB World Series futures odds today. I’ll also discuss who I’m betting on to win the 2023 World Series. Betting on futures before the season starts often offers the best value.
Will the Houston Astros be able to repeat as World Series champions?
The last time a team won consecutive World Series titles was when the New York Yankees won three in a row (1998, 1999 and 2000). The Astros have the shortest odds in the World Series futures betting market.
Top Contenders to Win the 2023 MLB World Series?
Here are the top contenders to win the 2023 MLB World Series based on the betting odds:
Houston Astros (+625 Odds to Win World Series)
Losing Justin Verlander is going to hurt the Astros, but this team has lost superstars in year’s past and have remained World Series contenders. They’ll win the AL West again in 2023.
New York Mets (+700 Odds to Win World Series)
The Mets spent more this offseason ($800+ million) than any team has ever spent in a single offseason, but will that translate to a World Series victory? This team will need some time to build chemistry.
New York Yankees (+750 Odds to Win World Series)
The AL East is always tough to win. The Yankees have an excellent starting pitching rotation and they were able to bring back Aaron Judge on a huge deal. They also have plenty of power in the batting order.
Los Angeles Dodgers (+775 Odds to Win World Series)
The Dodgers lost Trea Turner this offseason and the offense will likely struggle in 2023. They’ll still likely win the NL West and make the playoffs, but they need a piece or two at the trade deadline to contend.
2023 MLB World Series Futures Prediction
Best Bet: Philadelphia Phillies (+1200)
The Phillies lost to the Astros in the 2022 World Series. They barely made the MLB playoffs last season, but I expect them to compete with the Atlanta Braves and Mets for the NL East crown.
Adding Turner to the team is a huge addition. The Phillies have a deep batting order, which includes Bryce Harper, J.T. Realmuto, Alec Bohm, Nicholas Castellanos and Rhys Hoskins.
The Phillies also signed Taijuan Walker to bolster the starting pitching rotation. With four credible starters on the rotation, the Phillies should be able to win more regular season games.
The weakest spot for the Phillies is the bullpen. However, the Phillies offense should score more runs this season and the bullpen won’t be counted on as often to finish close games.
I like the value on the Phillies at 12/1. If the Phillies make the playoffs, which they should, we may be able to start hedging this futures bet to lock in a guaranteed profit at some point as well.
There are easily ten teams that will be contenders for the 2023 MLB World Series.
The Braves and San Diego Padres will be tough in the NL. The Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners could take another step forward in the AL. It’s going to be an exciting MLB season.
