This Saturday’s horse racing card at Fair Grounds Race Course consists of seven featured events highlighting the annual Louisiana Champions Day. Each of these races has a full field of Louisiana-bred contenders. Six of the seven events offer a guaranteed prize purse of $100,000.

Race 1: The Lassie
This six-furlong sprint on the dirt track is opened to two-year old fillies. There are nine entries in this race led by Rue Lala from the No. 1 post and Tecate Time breaking from the No. 8 post. You could add No. 5 Big Time to the short list coming off a Maiden Special Weight victory at Churchill Downs.
Race 2: The Juvenile
This field of two-year old Thoroughbred colts for this six-furlong sprint on dirt expands to 12 confirmed entries. Four of the top contenders carry a Horse Racing Nation rating. The two at the top of the list are No. 4 Chu Chu Legacy and No. 8 KT’s Jilted Groom.

Race 3: The Sprint
The Sprint is open to Thoroughbreds three and older. This six-furlong race on dirt has nine contenders listed as entered. Classy John could be the horse to beat breaking from the No. 6 post. You could add No. 2 Monte Man and No. 8 Win Ya Win to the short list for a trifecta play.
Race 4: The Turf
The first event of the day on the turf track at Fair Grounds covers 1 1/16 miles in total distance. Open to Thoroughbreds three and older, there are 12 entries in this race. This could be one of the deeper fields of the day with seven horses rated at HRN. Topping that list is Afleet Ascent with a rating of 5.12. He will break from the No. 5 post.
Race 5: Ladies Turf
Covering 1 1/16 miles on the turf, there are seven entries in this race for fillies three and older. The top three contenders on the short list are No. 1 Marywood, No. 2 Is Too and Net A Bear breaking out of the No. 6 gate. The latter four-year old filly won this year’s ungraded Red Camelia Stakes at Fair Grounds earlier in the year.

Race 6: The Classic
As the featured race in the LA Champions Day lineup, there are eight Thoroughbreds three and older in the field. This race covers 1 1/8 miles on the dirt. Trainer Steve Asmussen has two entries in this race. Jus Lively offers value as the only unrated horse at HRN. He will break from the No. 5 post. Shang is his other entry going off at No. 7. Underpressure took third place in last year’s LA Champions Day Classic. He will start eighth on Saturday.
Race 7: Ladies Sprint
The final event is open to fillies three and older. It will be run on the dirt at a distance of six furlongs. There are eight contenders listed as entered including Asmussen’s Vacherie Girl as the likely favorite. This three-year old has not raced competitively since winning the ungraded Crescent City Oaks at Fair Grounds on March 21. Two other entries of interest are No. 2 Mr. Al’s Gal and No. 3 Snowball.
