Early NHL Futures Odds to Win the 2022 Stanley Cup

The Tampa Bay Lightning became the first team to repeat as Stanley Cup champions since the 2016-17 Pittsburgh Penguins. Despite the feat, the Lightning are not favored to win a third straight title.

Best Sportsbooks for NHL Futures

Yes, it’s early, and the Lightning’s roster is certain to look a little different when the 2021-22 season begins later this year. But, it’s never too early to think about a winning futures bet. There are a number of early value bets on the board for next year’s Cup winner.

Avalanche Favored to Win Cup in 2022

Despite some uncertainty surrounding their captain Gabriel Landeskog, the Colorado Avalanche have been installed as the +500 Stanley Cup favorite. Landeskog will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason and, while the Avalanche will certainly do their best to re-sign him, it is still an unknown.

Regardless, the Avs have possibly the best player in hockey in Nathan MacKinnon, who scored 20 goals and finished with 65 points. Mikko Rantanen scored 30 goals and had 66 points and Landeskog went for 20 and 52.

Colorado is deep and talented and goaltender Philipp Grubauer (30-9-1) is among the best in the NHL. As good as the Avs were in 2021, they still managed to lose in six games to Vegas.

Top Contenders to Win 2022 NHL Stanley Cup

Even though they may look a little different next season, the core of the Lightning should remain the same. That makes them a definite contender for a third straight Stanley Cup. Tampa Bay is listed right behind Colorado at +600.

Vegas, which was upset by Montreal in the semifinals, will contend once again. The Golden Knights are the best defensive team in the NHL and that translates into wins. Vegas is listed at +800 to win.

Sleepers to Win 2022 NHL Stanley Cup

Teams that can score always have a shot at winning championships. The Toronto Maple Leafs had the No. 4 and No. 5 scorers in the NHL last season. Mitchell Marner scored 20 goals and 67 points while Auston Matthews led the NHL with 41 goals and 66 points. If the Leafs can just get past the first round of the playoffs, they have a shot. At +1400, they offer a nice payout.

Right behind Toronto on the board is the New York Islanders. Besides Vegas, the Islanders are the best defensive team in the league. That defense keeps them in games. It also allowed the Isles to reach the semifinals this year where they lost in seven games to Tampa Bay. At +1600, they are a sleeper that could win a Stanley Cup.

Early Value Bets

If Edmonton could learn how to play defense, they could be dangerous. They had the top two scorers – Connor McDavid (105) and Leon Draisatl (84) – in the NHL last season. At +3000, you’d love to say there’s value there, but that’s a stretch.

There’s more value on the Islanders (+1600), a team that could actually win a Stanley Cup. The other early value pick is Carolina, which is listed at +1200 to win the Cup. The Hurricanes won the Central Division with the NHL’s third-ranked goal differential. The Hurricanes are solid at both ends of the ice, which is what it takes to win a Stanley Cup.
