Some of the people who were traded in advance of the deadline have had an immediate impact on their teams.
One of those players is Anthony Rizzo, who attended Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL, which was the scene of that horrific mass shooting in 2018.
Rizzo, who went from the Chicago Cubs to the New York Yankees in a deal, has gotten off to a fast start in pinstripes. And he is one of the subjects of our winning prop bets for Thursday.

ANTHONY RIZZO (New York Yankees) OVER 1.5 TOTAL BASES (+120)
Opponent: SEATTLE MARINERS (starter – Tyler Anderson)
Time: 7:05 PM ET
So far for the Yankees, Rizzo is batting .438 with two homers and five RBI’s. That’s in five games, during which time he has 13 total bases.
He has hit Anderson very well in the past, going 7-for-18 with a homer. And he’s struck out only twice against Anderson.
BRYAN REYNOLDS (Pittsburgh Pirates) OVER 1.5 TOTAL BASES (+110)
Opponent: CINCINNATI REDS (starter – Sonny Gray)
Time: 7:10 PM ET
Reynolds, who was Pittsburgh’s representative in the All-Star Game, is hitting .305 with 18 homers. Since the All-Star break, he’s at .318, and in his last 17 games he’s has multiple hits (i.e., more than one) in seven of them.
Reynolds’ proficiency in this matchup does not lie in the “gray” area; he is 4-for-8 lifetime with two homers against the Reds’ starting pitcher.
SALVADOR PEREZ (Kansas City Royals) UNDER 0.5 RBIs (+110)
Opponent: CHICAGO WHITE SOX (starter – Dallas Keuchel)
Time: 8:10 PM ET
Yes, we will lay the price here. Perez is having his best offensive season (26 HR’s, 66 RBI’s, .274), but he generally runs into a roadblock when facing Keuchel, the former Cy Young winner, who has limited him to four hits in 30 lifetime at bats, with one RBI in those 30 at bats (and has struck him out nine times).
ANDRELTON SIMMONS (Minnesota Twins) UNDER 0.5 HITS (+115)
Opponent: HOUSTON ASTROS (starter – Framber Valdez)
Time: 8:10 PM ET
When you’re hitting .221, as Simmons is, you are having a hard time figuring out a lot of pitchers. But in the Minnesota shortstop’s case, he has been particularly plagued by an inability to do very much against Framber Valdez, who has put together very solid numbers for the Astros this season (7-2, 3.01 ERA).
Simmons has just two hits in 18 trips to the plate against Valdez, which, together with a poor batting percentage overall, gives us the idea that we have some value on our side.
ADAM DUVALL (Atlanta Braves) UNDER 0.5 RBIs (-155)
Opponent: ST. LOUIS CARDINALS (starter – Wade LeBlanc)
Time: 8:15 PM ET
We’re including this because Duvall happens to be tied for fifth in the National League with 69 RBI’s. That was basically in the uniform of the Miami Marlins. Since coming to Atlanta, Duvall has one RBI in the process of going 2-for-15 at the plate.
Wade LeBlanc has done mostly mediocre work for 13 seasons in the big leagues, but he is spotless so far against Duvall, holding him without a hit in six career at bats.
GREGORY POLANCO (Pittsburgh Pirates) UNDER 0.5 HITS (+120)
Opponent: CINCINNATI REDS (starter – Sonny Gray)
Time: 7:10 PM ET
Polanco has hardly done a thing against Sonny Gray, with one hit in 12 lifetime at bats, striking out half of those times (6, if you can’t do the math).
If we can get a positive price for that, well, enough said.
