UFC Vegas 71 (UFC Fight Night 221) is on Saturday, March 11th 2023.
There are 14 fights scheduled for the event at The Theatre at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. The prelims will get underway at 4:00 PM ET and the main card will begin at 7:00 PM ET.
This is a great non-PPV card. The #2 and #3 ranked bantamweights headline the main event. There are a total of eight ranked fighters scheduled to scrap in the cage at UFC Vegas 71 this weekend.
Yan vs. Dvalishvili Predictions
Fight Odds: Yan (-275) vs. Dvalishvili (+210)
Petr Yan (16-4) is just 1-3 since 2021. Two of the losses were against Aljamain Sterling and he’s coming off a split decision loss against Sean O’Malley. His last three fights have gone the distance.
Merab Dvalishvili (15-4) is on an 8-0 run in the UFC. His last fight was a decision win against Jose Aldo. Seven of his eight wins during his current winning streak have come by decision.
Yan averages 5.31 SLpM, but he takes a lot of damage (4.03 SApM). Dvalishvili averages 4.21 SLpM, but he struggled with accuracy (40%). He has good striking defense (2.31 SApM), though.
I wouldn’t bet Yan at his odds. Dvalishvili is a live underdog, but my best bet is for the fight to go the distance. Yan is often a slow starter and Dvalishvili has only four wins by stoppage.
Best Bet: Fight to Go the Distance (-190)
Volkov vs. Romanov Predictions
Fight Odds: Volkov (+125) vs. Romanov (-150)
Alexander Volkov (35-10) has struggled to string multiple wins together in the UFC. After starting his UFC career on a 4-0 run, he’s 5-4 in his last nine fights. His last two fights have finished in the first round.
Alexander Romanov (16-1) suffered his first career defeat last time out against Marcin Tybura. Volkov will look to utilize his 5” reach advantage (80” vs. 75”) to outstrike his opponent.
Volkov averages 4.88 SLpM and 3.04 SApM. He also has 23 TKO/KO wins. Romanov doesn’t have the same power (6 TKO/KO wins), but he has 9 submission wins and averages 1.1 subs per 15 minutes.
Romanov also averages 5.18 takedowns per 15 minutes and has had 2+ takedowns in every single UFC fight. Romanov needs to pace himself better, though. I think he’ll do that in this fight.
Best Bet: Over 1.5 Rounds (-165)
Krylov vs. Spann Predictions
Fight Odds: Krylov (-165) vs. Spann (+140)
Nikita Krylov (29-9) is 3-2 since 2020 and he’s on a two-fight win streak. Ryan Spann (21-7) is 3-1 since 2021 and also on a two-fight win streak. Five of Spann’s last six wins have come by stoppage.
Krylov averages 4.45 SLpM and 2.50 SApM, while Spann averages 3.42 SApM and 3.42 SApM. Both guys are capable of takedowns. Krylov has 53% takedown defense and Spann has 50% TDD.
Win or lose, Spann goes all out early. His last five fights have ended in the first round. Seven of Krylov’s last nine fights have started round two and I’ll be betting on that to happen again.
Best Bet: Fight Starts Round 2 (-152)
