Buffalo at Toledo Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
Our number has Toledo by 17.6. At +21, take Buffalo.
Toledo opened as a 19.5-point favorite over Buffalo at DraftKings and is a 21-point favorite now. Our number is Toledo by 17.6. The gap is 3.4 points, on Buffalo’s side, and the threshold for a bet here is 3.
This page carried no line until now. It said Buffalo was a bet at +21 or more, and the line has reached exactly that, so the side has not changed: it now has a price, and no room to spare.
How the number is built
Our number is half the difference between the home team’s average margin at home and the visitor’s average margin on the road, against FBS teams only, 2025 and 2026 together.
Toledo is 7-0 at home against FBS teams over that span, winning by 27.9 points a game across 7 games. Buffalo is 3-4 on the road against FBS teams, losing by 7.4 a game across 7 games. The difference is 35.3 points. Half of it, from the unrounded averages of 27.86 and -7.43, is 17.64, which rounds to 17.6.
The base is 14 games, and 10 of them are from 2025. Each side clears the 4-game minimum.
Toledo at home
Seven home games against FBS teams, seven wins. The 2025 five were one-sided: 45-21 over Western Kentucky, 45-3 over Akron, 45-10 over Kent State, 42-3 over Northern Illinois and 38-9 over Ball State. The smallest of those margins was 24 points.
This season Toledo beat Temple 49-48 on 19 September and San Diego State 41-16 on 26 September. The Temple game is the closest home result in the sample by 23 points.
It is also the game the bet leans on. Take it out and Toledo’s home average is 32.3, our number becomes Toledo by 19.9, and against 21 the gap is 1.1, a pass. The method keeps every FBS home game and we do not remove results that suit us, but this is the weak point of the bet.
Buffalo on the road
In 2025 Buffalo won 31-28 at Kent State, 28-21 at Massachusetts and 28-3 at Bowling Green, and lost 23-10 at Minnesota and 38-19 at Central Michigan.
The two 2026 road games were losses: 33-20 at Florida International on 12 September and 55-13 at Penn State on 19 September. The Penn State game is the heaviest result in Buffalo’s sample, a 42-point loss. Without it, Buffalo’s other six road games average a 1.7-point loss, and our number would be Toledo by 14.8. That would make Buffalo a stronger bet, not a weaker one.
2026 so far
Toledo is 4-1 and 3-1 against FBS teams. It lost 30-20 at Michigan State in its opener, beat Temple and San Diego State at home, and won 39-24 at Ball State on 3 October. Against FBS teams it has scored 37.2 points a game and allowed 29.5, a margin of +7.8. Its other win was 63-10 over Central Connecticut, a team outside the FBS.
Buffalo is 2-3 and 0-3 against FBS teams, scoring 16.7 and allowing 36.0 against them. Besides the two road losses, it lost 20-17 at home to Western Michigan on 3 October. Both wins, 21-17 over UAlbany and 31-28 over Robert Morris, came against teams outside the FBS.
On this season alone Toledo is the better side by 27.1 points a game. That is the case for the market’s number, and our method gives 2025 its full weight against it.
Last season
Toledo went 8-5 in 2025 with an average margin of +17.5, 6-0 at home and 2-4 on the road. It lost its bowl 27-22 to Louisville on 23 December 2025, at a neutral site.
Buffalo went 5-7 at +0.5 a game, 2-5 at home and 3-2 on the road. The two teams did not meet in 2025 or so far in 2026.
The price
Toledo opened at -19.5 and is -21 now, read 8 October 2026 at 07:03 UTC at DraftKings via ESPN. That is a 1.5-point move toward Toledo. Buffalo +21 is priced at -112 and Toledo -21 at -108.
The moneyline has Toledo at -1600 and Buffalo at +900, from -1350 and +800 at the open. With the margin removed, that prices Toledo to win 90.4% of the time. ESPN’s FPI has Toledo at 91.3%.
Nobody disagrees about the winner. The bet is that 21 points is more than Toledo’s record against teams like Buffalo supports.
Pick: Buffalo +21
Buffalo +21 at -112. The gap is 3.4 points against a 3-point threshold.
It rests on 14 games, 7 on each side. At the open, Buffalo +19.5, the gap was 1.9 and this was a pass. The bet exists because the line moved to it.
What changes it
The line, and there is little room. Buffalo is a bet at +21 or more. At +20.5 the gap is 2.9, and the call becomes a pass. Toledo would need to be -14.5 or shorter to be the bet.
The sample is the other risk. Buffalo is 0-3 against FBS teams this season and has lost them by 19.3 a game, and 5 of its 7 road games in our number are from 2025. If this season describes Buffalo better than last, our number is too low on Toledo.

The total
The total is 54.5, from 55.5 at the open. The over is -115 and the under -105.
Against FBS teams across 2025 and 2026, Toledo’s games went over 54.5 in 5 of 16, and Buffalo’s in 6 of 14. This season Toledo’s five games produced 50, 73, 97, 57 and 63 points, and Buffalo’s produced 38, 53, 68, 59 and 37.
Pass on the total at 54.5. The longer sample leans under, and Toledo’s 2026 median, 63, sits well over the line.
