San Diego State at Oregon State Best Pick, Prediction and Odds

Our number has San Diego State by 2.1 on the road. San Diego State is a bet at +1 or more, Oregon State at +5.5 or more.

No line had been posted for this game as of 28 September. Our number makes the visitor a 2.1-point favourite. A side becomes a bet when our number and the spread are 3 or more points apart, so the call for now is a price on each side, and the pass window runs from Oregon State -0.5 to Oregon State +5.

How the number is built

The method is one clause: our number is half the difference between the home team’s average margin at home and the visitor’s average margin on the road, against FBS teams only, 2025 and 2026 together.

Oregon State is 1-6 at home against FBS teams over that span, losing by 9.7 points a game across 7 games. San Diego State is 3-5 on the road against FBS teams, losing by 5.5 a game across 8 games. The difference is 4.2 points against the home side. Half of it is 2.1, in San Diego State’s favour.

Both samples clear our 4-game minimum, with 15 games between them.

Oregon State at home

Oregon State’s one home win against an FBS team in the sample was 10-7 over Washington State on 1 November 2025. The losses that season were 34-15 to California, 36-27 to Fresno State, 27-24 to Houston, 39-14 to Wake Forest and 21-17 to Sam Houston. On 12 September 2026 it lost 35-24 to Texas Tech.

Four of the six losses were by 11 points or fewer, and two were by 19 or more. The one win, by 3, is the only home result in the sample on the right side of zero.

San Diego State on the road

San Diego State’s road wins all came in 2025: 6-3 at Northern Illinois, 44-10 at Nevada and 23-0 at Fresno State. It lost 36-13 at Washington State, 38-6 at Hawai’i and 23-17 at New Mexico that season.

Both 2026 road games were losses: 28-10 at UCLA on 12 September and 41-16 at Toledo on 26 September. The 2025 road record was 3-3; the 2026 one is 0-2, and those two losses by a combined 43 points are why the road average sits at minus 5.5.

2026 so far

San Diego State is 1-3. Its win was 53-20 over Portland State, a team outside the FBS. Against FBS teams it is 0-3, scoring 13.0 points a game and allowing 31.7, and that includes a 26-13 home loss to James Madison on 19 September.

Oregon State is 2-2 and has won two in a row. It lost 33-20 at Houston and 35-24 at home to Texas Tech, then beat Montana 52-17, a team outside the FBS, and won 33-7 at UTEP on 26 September. Against its three FBS opponents it has scored 25.7 a game and allowed 25.0.

ESPN’s FPI gives Oregon State a 73.5% chance to win. Our number has the other team favoured.

Last season

San Diego State went 9-4 in 2025, 6-0 at home, scoring 26.4 points a game and allowing 15.4. It ended with a 49-47 bowl loss to North Texas on 27 December. Oregon State went 2-10, scoring 18.2 and allowing 29.4. The two did not meet in 2025.

Pick: San Diego State +1 or more, Oregon State +5.5 or more

No line, so no bet yet. Our number is San Diego State by 2.1 on 15 games, split 7 and 8.

San Diego State becomes a bet as soon as Oregon State is favoured by a point or more: at San Diego State +1 the gap is 3.1. Oregon State becomes a bet at +5.5 or longer, where the gap is 3.4. At Oregon State -0.5 the gap is 2.6, and at Oregon State +5 it is 2.9: both passes.

What changes it

The line, first. If the market follows FPI and makes Oregon State the favourite by a point or more, San Diego State is the bet.

Then the results. An Oregon State home game or a San Diego State road game against an FBS team before 10 October joins the sample and moves our number. The full page re-reads both the week of the game.
