UTEP vs North Dakota State Best Pick, Prediction and Odds

No bet on UTEP +24.5. North Dakota State has three home games against FBS teams to measure, and our rule needs four.

Our UTEP vs North Dakota State prediction puts the Bison 22.9 points better at home. The spread is 24.5. That is a 1.6-point gap toward UTEP, and it would not clear the 3-point threshold even if the sample did.

The prices

North Dakota State is -24.5 at DraftKings, priced at -112, and UTEP is +24.5 at -108, read 30 October 2026 at 00:40 UTC. The spread opened at North Dakota State -27.5.

The moneyline is North Dakota State -2800 and UTEP +1300. A book builds a margin into its prices, so the two sides’ implied chances add up to more than 100%. With that margin taken out, the market gives North Dakota State a 93.1% chance to win and UTEP 6.9%. ESPN’s FPI has it at 96.2% and 3.8%.

How 22.9 is reached

Our home margin is half the difference between two averages. The first is the home team’s average margin at home. The second is the visitor’s average margin on the road. Both count only games against FBS teams, across 2025 and 2026. Bowl and playoff games are left out because they are played at neutral sites.

North Dakota State is 3-0 at home against FBS teams in that span, winning by 22.7 points a game. UTEP is 1-8 on the road against FBS teams, losing by 23.1 a game. Half the difference is 22.9.

The rule has two parts. A side is a bet when our number and the spread are at least 3 points apart. No side is a bet when either sample has fewer than 4 games. Here the gap is 1.6 and the Bison’s sample is 3, so the call fails both tests.

This season so far

None of this is in our number. North Dakota State is 6-2, 3-2 in the Mountain West and 4-0 at home. It scores 27.8 points a game and allows 12.5, a margin of +15.2. Against FBS teams alone the margin is +12.0, on a 5-2 record.

The Bison have lost two of their last three. They lost 13-7 at UNLV on 10 October, beat Nevada 31-17 at home on 17 October, then lost 21-16 at New Mexico on 24 October.

UTEP is 1-6, 0-3 in the conference, and has lost five in a row. It scores 15.1 points a game and allows 37.3. Against FBS teams it is 0-6 with a margin of -32.7 a game. Its one win was 51-10 over Texas Southern, which is not an FBS team.

North Dakota State at home, UTEP on the road

The home half is the whole problem. North Dakota State played no FBS teams in 2025, so all three home games in the sample are from this season: 33-7 over Jacksonville State on 29 August, 28-0 over Wyoming on 3 October and 31-17 over Nevada on 17 October. Three games describe a team’s home form about as well as one bad afternoon would. The 22.7 figure may be right. This sample cannot tell us.

The road half is the sturdier one at 9 games. UTEP’s road games against FBS teams this season went 51-0 to Oklahoma on 4 September, 52-17 to Michigan on 19 September and 61-7 to New Mexico on 3 October. The rest of the sample is 2025.

The halves the method leaves out are a long way from the halves it uses. North Dakota State’s FBS road games this season include a 38-32 win at Air Force and both of its losses. UTEP lost its three FBS home games this season 33-7 to Oregon State, 30-13 to Nevada and 24-11 to San José State.

The season around it

The two teams share two opponents this season. North Dakota State beat Nevada 31-17 at home; UTEP lost 30-13 at home to Nevada. North Dakota State lost 21-16 at New Mexico; UTEP lost 61-7 at New Mexico. That comparison favours the Bison, and it is also four games, which proves nothing about a 24.5-point spread.

North Dakota State went 12-1 in 2025, 6-1 at home and 6-0 on the road, scoring 41.1 and allowing 13.0 for a margin of +28.1. None of those games was against an FBS team, so none of them enters our number. UTEP went 2-10, 1-10 against FBS teams, 1-5 at home and 1-5 on the road, with a margin of -7.1 a game.

Pick: No bet

No bet. Our number is North Dakota State by 22.9 against a spread of 24.5, a gap of 1.6 points toward UTEP and below the 3-point threshold. North Dakota State’s home sample against FBS teams is 3 games, under the 4-game minimum.

The price is North Dakota State -24.5 (-112) and UTEP +24.5 (-108) at DraftKings, read 30 October 2026 at 00:40 UTC. It opened at North Dakota State -27.5.

What kills the bet

There is no bet to kill. On the gap alone, UTEP would become a bet at +25.9 or longer, and North Dakota State at -19.9 or shorter. Neither price changes this call, because the sample rule comes first. The call stays no bet at any line until North Dakota State has 4 home games against FBS teams in the span.
