The moneyline is South Florida -305 and UAB +245. Those two prices add to more than 100% because a book builds in a margin, the extra that keeps it ahead whichever side wins. With the margin taken out, the market gives South Florida a 72.2% chance to win and UAB 27.8%. ESPN’s FPI is higher on South Florida, at 84.2%.

How 20.3 is reached

Our number is half the difference between the home team’s average margin at home and the visitor’s average margin on the road. It counts games against FBS teams only, 2025 and 2026 together. Bowl and playoff games are played at neutral sites and are left out.

The rule needs at least 4 games in each sample. South Florida’s half has 8 and UAB’s has 9, so both clear it. Against a spread of 7.5, the gap is 12.8 points.

South Florida at home, UAB on the road

South Florida went 6-0 at home in 2025. Its one home loss to an FBS team in the sample is 17-13 to Temple on 3 October 2026. This season it also beat Florida International 19-9 on 5 September and Kent State 29-2 on 17 October at Raymond James Stadium.

UAB’s road half is the weaker team in this game, and it is weak across both seasons. It went 1-5 on the road in 2025. This season it has lost all three road games against FBS teams: 42-23 at Illinois on 3 September, 21-14 at Louisiana on 19 September and 38-13 at Memphis on 10 October.

The method leaves out the other halves. UAB is 4-0 at home this season, with wins over UL Monroe, Navy, Samford and East Carolina. South Florida won 28-24 at Army and 14-6 at Bowling Green, and lost 31-24 at UTSA on 8 October. None of those games enters our number.

UAB is 4-3, 2-1 in conference, and 3-3 against FBS teams. It has scored 23.3 and allowed 24.6, a margin of -1.3, and -4.7 against FBS teams. Its win over Samford, 33-14 on 3 October, came against a team outside the FBS.

Records, conference standing and this season’s form sit outside the method. On 2026 alone South Florida is the better side against FBS teams, and the gap between the teams is smaller than our number says.

Last season and the meeting

South Florida went 9-4 in 2025, 8-4 against FBS teams, scoring 40.5 points a game and allowing 23.4, a margin of +17.1. It lost its bowl game 24-10 to Old Dominion on 17 December 2025, at a neutral site. UAB went 4-8, 3-8 against FBS teams, at -11.8 a game.

The two teams met once in the span. South Florida won 48-18 at UAB on 22 November 2025. That was a UAB home game, so the method does not use it.

Against FBS teams across 2025 and 2026, South Florida’s games went over 42.5 in 11 of 18, and UAB’s in 15 of 17. This season the two point the other way. South Florida’s six FBS games produced 28, 52, 20, 30, 55 and 31 points. UAB’s produced 65, 46, 35, 44, 51 and 47.
