Our number has Oregon by 12.0. Oregon is a bet at -9 or shorter, UCLA at +15 or longer.

No spread had been posted for this game at DraftKings when we read ESPN on 28 September 2026. Our number is Oregon by 12.0. A side becomes a bet when the spread sits at least 3 points from it.

How the number is built

The method is one clause: our number is half the difference between the home team’s average margin at home and the visitor’s average margin on the road, against FBS teams only, 2025 and 2026 together.

Oregon is 7-1 at home against FBS teams over that span, winning by 21.5 points a game across 8 games. UCLA is 3-5 on the road against FBS teams, losing by 2.5 a game across 8 games. The difference is 24.0 points. Half of it is 12.0.

Both samples have 8 games. Oregon’s includes a 51-34 playoff win over James Madison at home on 20 December 2025.

Oregon at home

The seven wins were 69-3 over Oklahoma State, 41-7 over Oregon State, 21-7 over Wisconsin, 42-13 over Minnesota, 42-27 over USC and the playoff win over James Madison, all in 2025, then 34-27 over Boise State on 5 September. The loss was 30-20 to Indiana on 11 October 2025.

The 66-point win over Oklahoma State is 66 of the 172 points in the total. Without it the other seven home games average +15.1, a sum of 106 over 7, and our number would be Oregon by 8.8.

UCLA on the road

UCLA’s road sample is two different teams. In 2025 it lost 30-23 at UNLV, 17-14 at Northwestern, 56-6 at Indiana, 48-10 at Ohio State and 29-10 at USC, and won 38-13 at Michigan State. Those six games average -15.3.

In 2026 it won 45-24 at California and 54-3 at Maryland on 26 September. Those two average +36.0. The method weights every game the same, so six from 2025 outvote two from 2026.

2026 so far

No. 23 UCLA is 4-0, all against FBS teams, and 2-0 in the Big Ten. It won 45-24 at California, beat San Diego State 28-10 and Purdue 52-38, then won 54-3 at Maryland. It has scored 44.8 points a game and allowed 18.8.

No. 15 Oregon is 3-1. It beat Boise State 34-27, lost 39-31 at Oklahoma State, beat Portland State 84-0, a team outside the FBS, and won 41-27 at USC on 26 September. Against its three FBS opponents it has scored 35.3 a game and allowed 31.0.

Last season

Oregon went 13-2 in 2025 and won by 19.1 a game. It beat Texas Tech 23-0 on 1 January, then lost 56-22 to Indiana on 9 January, both at neutral sites.

UCLA went 3-9 and was outscored by 15.2 a game. The two teams did not play each other in 2025, and have not in 2026.

The price

There is none yet, for the spread, the total or the moneyline.

ESPN’s FPI gives Oregon an 84.9% chance to win. That agrees with our number on the winner. It says nothing about the margin a spread would ask for.

Pick: Oregon -9 or shorter, UCLA +15 or longer

Until a line is posted, this is the call. At Oregon -9 the gap is 3.0 and Oregon is the bet. At UCLA +15 the gap is 3.0 and UCLA is the bet.

From Oregon -9.5 to -14.5 the market sits within 3 points of our 12.0, and the call is a pass. It rests on 16 games, split 8 and 8.

What changes it

The posted line decides the side, and the full page re-reads it the week of the game.

UCLA’s 2026 form is the risk to an Oregon bet. A team that is 4-0 and has won by 26.0 a game is being priced mostly on a 3-9 season. Take out the Oklahoma State blowout and Oregon -9 is no longer a bet at 8.8. This page does not state who is available, so check the injury report before you bet.
