Sabres vs Canadiens Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
Bet the Sabres at +130. Our number calls the game even, and the price gives Buffalo 41.7%.
The Montreal Canadiens are -155 and the Buffalo Sabres +130 at DraftKings. Without the margin that is 58.3% for Montreal and 41.7% for Buffalo. Our number has both teams at 50.0%. The gap is 8.3 points toward the Sabres, and the rule is that 5 points or more is a bet.
Where the 50.0% comes from
Our home win chance is the home team’s 2025-26 home win rate averaged with the visitor’s 2025-26 road loss rate, counting an overtime or shootout win as a win and leaving out neutral-site games. That is the whole method.
The Canadiens went 24-15-2 at home: 24 wins, 15 regulation losses and 2 losses after regulation, a 58.5% home win rate over 41 games. The Sabres went 24-13-4 on the road. They lost 17 of 41, a 41.5% road loss rate. The average of 58.5% and 41.5% is 50.0%.
Put plainly, Buffalo won 24 of 41 on the road and Montreal won 24 of 41 at home. A method that reads those two halves and nothing else cannot separate the teams.
The margin is what a book adds to both prices so that they total more than 100%. Here -155 and +130 total 104.3%. Removed, it leaves the Canadiens at 58.3% and the Sabres at 41.7%.
An 8.3-point gap deserves suspicion before it gets money. The number is 41 home games for one team and 41 road games for the other, all from 2025-26. It holds no game from this season and nothing about the summer. It also holds no playoff game, and that matters here, because these two teams played seven of them against each other in May.
Montreal at home, Buffalo on the road
By goals, the visitor has the better half. The Sabres on the road scored 3.39 a game and allowed 2.98, a surplus of 0.41. The Canadiens at home scored 3.34 and allowed 3.10, a surplus of 0.24.
Montreal was the same team in either building by wins: 24-9-8 on the road, 24 wins in 41 again. Buffalo was better at home, 26-10-5 and a 63.4% win rate over 41 games, and the method ignores that half.
The Sabres finished 50-23-9 with 109 points and outscored opponents by 47 goals. The Canadiens finished 48-24-10 with 106 points and a goal difference of plus 27. Buffalo won by two goals or more 35 times in 82 games. Montreal did it 25 times.
The case against the bet is the playoffs. Montreal knocked Buffalo out 4-3 in the second round and won Game 7 in Buffalo, 3-2 in overtime, on 18 May. The Canadiens also won more close games in the regular season: 23-6-10 in one-goal games against Buffalo’s 15-3-9, and 14 wins in 24 games that went past 60 minutes against 8 in 17.
Home ice decided little between these two. The four regular-season meetings split 2-2, with one home win and one road win each: Montreal 4-2 at home on 20 October and 4-2 in Buffalo on 31 January, Buffalo 5-3 at home on 15 January and 4-2 in Montreal on 22 January. In the playoff series the road team won five of the seven games, and the Sabres took two of the three played in Montreal. Eleven games is a small sample. The four regular-season ones count in the number like any other game, and the seven playoff games are not in it.
Pick: Sabres +130
Bet the Sabres on the moneyline at +130. The gap is 8.3 points and the threshold is 5.
The line opened at Canadiens -162 and Sabres +136. When it was read on 12 October 2026 at 17:29 UTC it was -155 and +130, DraftKings via ESPN. The price has moved toward the Sabres, and the bet is smaller for it.
What kills the bet
A shorter price on Buffalo. At +123 or longer the Sabres are a bet whatever Montreal is priced at. They are +130 now, down from +136 at the open, so there is room, and less of it than there was. Shorter than +123, the answer depends on the Canadiens’ price as well, and the sum has to be done again.
The second thing is the lineup. This page states nothing about who dresses for either team on 13 October, and a number built on last season cannot know. Read both lineups before you take the +130.
The total and the puck line
The total is 6.5 at -110 on both sides. The Canadiens’ games went over 6.5 in 44 of 82, the Sabres’ in 38 of 82. Montreal’s home games averaged 6.44 goals and Buffalo’s road games 6.37.
Those rates are 53.7% and 46.3%, and their average is 50.0%. A total at -110 on both sides is priced at 50.0% each once the margin is out. The gap is zero. Pass on the total.
The puck line is the moneyline argument again. The Canadiens are -1.5 at +164 and the Sabres +1.5 at -198, which is 36.3% and 63.7% without the margin. Montreal won by two or more in 25 of 82 games. Buffalo lost by two or more in 20 of 82. Averaged, Canadiens -1.5 comes in 27.4% of the time against 36.3% priced, a gap of 8.9 points. Our method bets the moneyline only, so Sabres +1.5 at -198 is a lean, and it is the same opinion as the pick. One bet: the Sabres at +130.
