Hurricanes vs Flames Best Pick, Prediction and Odds

Bet the Flames at +160. Our number makes Calgary at home close to a coin flip, 48.8%; the price gives them 36.9%.

The Carolina Hurricanes are -192 and the Calgary Flames +160 at DraftKings. With the margin out, that is 63.1% for Carolina and 36.9% for Calgary. Carolina is the right favourite. The price makes them a far bigger one than the figures do, by 11.9 points.

How 48.8% is reached

Our home win chance is the average of two 2025-26 rates: the home team’s win rate in its own arena and the visitor’s loss rate on the road. Overtime and shootout wins count as wins. Games at a neutral site are in neither half, and neither team had one.

The Flames went 23-13-5 at the Scotiabank Saddledome: 23 wins, 13 regulation losses and 5 after regulation, a 56.1% home win rate over 41 games. The Hurricanes went 24-12-5 on the road and lost 17 of 41, a 41.5% road loss rate. The midpoint is 48.8% for Calgary and 51.2% for Carolina.

The margin is the extra a book builds into both prices so the pair comes to more than 100%. At -192 and +160 they come to 104.2%. Taken out, the Hurricanes are 63.1% and the Flames 36.9%.

Both halves are from 2025-26, and this season is not in the figures. That matters here more than usual. Calgary is 1-6-0 and has lost all three of its home games; its last game was a 6-2 loss in Vegas on Thursday, so the Flames come in on two days off. Carolina is 6-1-1 and plays in Winnipeg on Saturday afternoon, so this is its second game in two days.

Calgary at home, Carolina on the road

At home the Flames scored 2.93 a game and allowed 2.61, a surplus of 0.32. The Hurricanes on the road scored 3.29 and allowed 2.78, a surplus of 0.51.

The halves the method leaves out show how much of Calgary’s season was the Saddledome. The Flames on the road went 11-26-4, a 26.8% win rate, scoring 2.24 and allowing 3.71. Carolina at home went 29-10-2, 70.7%, scoring 3.93 and allowing 3.07. This game is in Calgary.

Over the full season these two were far apart. The Hurricanes finished 53-22-7 with 113 points and outscored opponents by 56, then won the Stanley Cup: 4-0 over Ottawa, 4-0 over Philadelphia, 4-1 over Montreal and 4-2 over Vegas in the final. The Flames finished 34-39-9 with 77 points, were outscored by 47, and did not make the playoffs.

Carolina also won the close ones. The Hurricanes went 24-4-7 in one-goal games and won 14 of the 21 that went past regulation. Calgary went 14-6-9 in one-goal games and won 7 of its 16 past 60 minutes.

The two split their meetings in 2025-26. Calgary won 5-4 at home on 7 March, and that game is in our number: one of the Flames’ 41 home games and one of Carolina’s 41 road games. Carolina’s 1-0 overtime win at home on 30 November is in neither half.

Pick: Flames +160

Bet the Flames on the moneyline at +160. The gap is 11.9 points toward Calgary, against a threshold of 5.

The line read Hurricanes -192 and Flames +160 on 17 October 2026 at 15:38 UTC, DraftKings via ESPN, unchanged from where it opened.

What kills the bet

A much shorter Calgary price. At +129 or longer the Flames are a bet whatever Carolina is priced at; against -192 they still clear the bar at even money.

For the Hurricanes to become the bet, they would have to be +117 or longer, an underdog. They are -192.

No goalie is on either team’s injury list (ESPN, read 17 October 2026, 15:39 UTC), so the method stands as it is. Carolina lists Taylor Hall as out, and Seth Jarvis, Jordan Staal and Alexander Nikishin on injured reserve; Calgary lists Jonathan Huberdeau on injured reserve and Samuel Honzek as out. Who starts in goal is not on ESPN’s game page. Carolina has split its starts this season, four games each for Pyotr Kochetkov and Brandon Bussi; Dustin Wolf has played five of Calgary’s seven. Check the lineups before you bet.

An underdog at +160 loses more often than it wins, on our number as well as the book’s. The case is that the price pays more than the risk warrants. The risk in this one is plain: a 1-6-0 start says this Calgary team may not be last season’s home team, and our number does not see it.

The total and the puck line

The total is 5.5, over -135 and under +114. The Flames’ games went over 5.5 in 43 of 82, the Hurricanes’ in 53 of 82. Calgary’s home games averaged 5.54 goals, Carolina’s road games 6.07.

That is 52.4% and 64.6%, an average of 58.5% for the over. With the margin removed the over is priced at 55.1% and the under at 44.9%, so our number leans to the over by less than 4 points. Pass on the total.

The puck line is a pass too. Carolina is -1.5 at +124 and Calgary +1.5 at -148, which is 42.8% and 57.2% without the margin. The Hurricanes won by two goals or more in 29 of 82 games, and the Flames lost by two or more in 33 of 82. Averaged, Carolina -1.5 lands 37.8% of the time against 42.8% priced, a gap toward Flames +1.5 just short of 5 points. One bet on this game: the Flames at +160.
