Wild vs Canucks Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
No bet on the Wild. With Filip Gustavsson out, our number has Minnesota 3.9 points better than the price, and we need 5.
The Minnesota Wild are -180 and the Vancouver Canucks +150 at DraftKings. With the margin out, that is 61.6% for Minnesota and 38.4% for Vancouver. Our number is 65.5% for the Wild. The 3.9-point gap is real but small, and it sits under the line we set before any game.
How 34.5% is reached
Our home win chance is the average of two 2025-26 rates: the home team’s win rate in its own arena and the visitor’s loss rate on the road. Overtime and shootout wins count as wins. Neutral-site games are left out. A side is a bet when our number and the market’s differ by at least 5 points.
Gustavsson is on injured reserve with a hip injury. The source is ESPN’s injury list, read 24 October 2026 at 19:03 UTC. His entry is dated 18 October, with 19 November given as his expected return. When a team’s starting goalie is out, our method is run again on the games without him. Gustavsson appeared in 50 of Minnesota’s 82 games last season, more than Jesper Wallstedt’s 35, and in 24 of the 41 road games. In the 17 road games without him, the Wild went 9-4-4, a 47.06% road loss rate. Seventeen clears our NHL minimum of 10.
The Canucks went 9-27-5 at Rogers Arena, a 22.0% home win rate. Average 22.0% with 47.06% and Vancouver is 34.5%, Minnesota 65.5%. That is 3.9 points better for the Wild than the price.
The full road season tells a different story, and it is worth stating because it is close. The Wild went 23-14-4 away from home, a 43.9% road loss rate. On that number Vancouver is 32.9% and the gap is 5.5 points, enough for a Wild bet. Without Gustavsson, Minnesota was a weaker road team, and the gap shrinks below the threshold. The re-run is the number we use.
The margin is the extra a book builds into both prices so the pair comes to more than 100%. At -180 and +150 they come to 104.3%. Taken out, the Wild are 61.6% and the Canucks 38.4%.
Every input is from 2025-26. This season is outside the method. The Canucks are 2-9-1, 1-4-0 at home, and lost 5-2 to Detroit on Thursday. Kevin Lankinen has played eight of their games and Leevi Merilainen seven. The Wild are 6-3-2, 2-3-2 on the road, and lost 2-1 in Calgary on Thursday. Wallstedt has played ten of their games and Calvin Pickard one.
Vancouver at home, Minnesota on the road
The Canucks at home scored 2.46 a game and allowed 3.9, a deficit of 1.44. The Wild on the road scored 3.46 and allowed 3.05, a surplus of 0.41. Those are the two halves our number reads.
The halves the method leaves out: Vancouver on the road went 16-22-3, a 39.0% win rate, scoring 2.8 and allowing 3.8. Minnesota at home went 23-10-8, a 56.1% win rate, scoring 3.17 and allowing 2.8. The Canucks were a better team away from Rogers Arena than in it. Our number uses their weaker half.
The season around it
Minnesota went 46-24-12 with 104 points and a goal difference of +32. They beat Dallas 4-2 in the first round of the playoffs, then lost 4-1 to Colorado. Vancouver went 25-49-8 with 58 points, a goal difference of -100, and missed the playoffs.
The Wild went 20-5-12 in one-goal games and won 15 of the 27 that went past regulation. The Canucks went 15-9-8 in one-goal games and won 10 of their 18 past regulation. Vancouver lost by two goals or more in 40 of 82 games. Minnesota lost by that margin 19 times.
Minnesota won two of the three meetings last season, both at home and both 5-2: on 1 November 2025 and 2 April 2026. Those are in neither half of our number. The one game in Vancouver, a 4-2 Canucks win on 6 December 2025, is in the Canucks’ home half and the Wild’s full road season. It is in the re-run only if Gustavsson did not play it.
Pick: No bet
No bet. The gap is 3.9 points toward Minnesota on the Wild’s road games without Gustavsson, against a threshold of 5.
The line read Wild -180 and Canucks +150 on 24 October 2026 at 19:03 UTC, DraftKings via ESPN. It opened at -170 and +142. Since the open the market has moved toward Minnesota, giving the Wild 1.3 points more than it did, from 60.4% to 61.6%. The price is close to right, and moving the wrong way for anyone hoping for value on Minnesota.
What kills the bet
A shorter Wild price makes them the bet. Against Vancouver at +150, Minnesota becomes a bet at -159 or longer. At -153 or longer the Wild are a bet whatever the Canucks are priced at. They are -180.
For Vancouver to become the bet, they would have to be +271 or longer against the current Wild price, or +239 or longer whatever Minnesota is priced at. They are +150.
The rest is on the ice. ESPN’s injury list also has Marcus Foligno, Nick Foligno and Brock Faber on injured reserve for Minnesota, and Maxim Shabanov day-to-day with an upper-body injury. Vancouver lists Thatcher Demko on injured reserve with a hip injury, along with Jack Thompson, Akil Thomas and Mackenzie MacEachern. Demko is mentioned here only; the re-run is for Minnesota’s starter. Check the lineups before you bet.
The total and the puck line
The total is 6.5, over -108 and under -112. The Canucks’ games went over 6.5 in 46 of 82, the Wild’s in 42 of 82. Vancouver’s home games averaged 6.36 goals, Minnesota’s road games 6.51.
That is 56.1% and 51.2%, an average of 53.7% for the over. With the margin removed the over is priced at 49.6% and the under at 50.4%. Our number leans to the over by 4.1 points. Pass on the total.
On the puck line, Minnesota is -1.5 at +130 and Vancouver +1.5 at -155, which is 41.7% and 58.3% without the margin. The Wild won by two goals or more in 26 of 82 games, and the Canucks lost by two or more in 40 of 82. Averaged, Wild -1.5 lands 40.2% of the time against 41.7% priced. The 1.5-point gap is noise, and our method stakes the moneyline only. Nothing on this game clears 5 points. No bet.
