Olympic Women’s Breaking: B-Girl Ami Won, Not at LA28

Japan’s B-Girl Ami won the first Olympic women’s breaking gold at Paris 2024, beating 17-year-old Nicka of Lithuania in three straight rounds at the Place de la Concorde on August 9, 2024. Breaking is not on the program for the Los Angeles 2028 Games, so there is no next Olympic event to bet on.

The World DanceSport Federation (WDSF), which runs the sport, says it is working to get breaking into the Brisbane 2032 Games. Until then, this page holds the Paris result as the record.

671 won the bronze battle against India of the Netherlands. Ami had qualified for Paris by winning the Olympic Qualifier Series event in Budapest in June 2024.

The breaking events ran on August 9 and 10, 2024, with the B-Girls first. It was the sport’s Olympic debut, and it came after an appearance at the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018.

Why breaking is not at LA28

Each host city can propose sports for its own Games on top of the core program, and that choice is the organizing committee’s alone, the WDSF said in its statement on the decision. Paris 2024 picked breaking, skateboarding, surfing and sport climbing. Los Angeles picked baseball-softball, cricket, flag football, lacrosse and squash.

The official LA28 list of Olympic sports has no breaking event. The WDSF points to baseball-softball as the precedent: it was at Tokyo 2020, left out of Paris 2024 and back for LA28.

Breaking events still to come in 2026

With no Olympic event until 2032 at the earliest, the WDSF calendar lists three breaking competitions before the end of 2026:

  • Asian Games: breaking in Nagoya, Japan, October 2 and 3, 2026
  • Youth Olympic Games: breaking in Dakar, Senegal, November 12 and 13, 2026
  • WDSF World Championships: Adidas Arena, Paris, December 4 to 6, 2026

This page names no price for them. If a market appears, turn the price into a chance first: +300 implies 25% and +1000 implies 9.1%.
