Sam Houston at Liberty Best Pick, Prediction and Odds

Our number has Liberty by 14.7. No line yet: Liberty is a bet at -11.5 or shorter, Sam Houston at +18 or more.

No spread had been posted as of 28 September. Our number is Liberty by 14.7, and a side is a bet when the spread sits at least 3 points from it. That leaves one price on each side worth taking, and a pass between them.

How the number is built

The method in one clause: our number is half the difference between the home team’s average margin at home and the visitor’s average margin on the road, against FBS teams only, over 2025 and 2026 together.

Liberty is 3-3 at home against FBS teams over that span, winning by 6.67 points a game across 6 games. Sam Houston is 1-8 on the road against FBS teams, losing by 22.78 a game across 9 games. The difference is 29.44 points. Half of it, rounded, is 14.7.

The home side’s record is even. The number is large because of the visitor.

Sam Houston on the road

Sam Houston’s one FBS road win in two seasons was 21-17 at Oregon State on 8 November 2025.

The eight losses in 2025 and 2026 were 41-24 at Western Kentucky, 37-20 at Hawai’i, 55-0 at Texas, 37-10 at New Mexico State, 55-14 at Louisiana Tech, 31-17 at Middle Tennessee, 24-21 at Troy and 49-14 at Texas Tech. Seven of the eight were by 14 points or more. The exception was the 3-point loss at Troy on 5 September.

Liberty at home

Liberty’s home sample is mixed. It lost 31-13 to James Madison, 21-17 to Missouri State and 48-42 to Kennesaw State in 2025.

It won 30-27 over New Mexico State and 59-30 over Delaware in 2025, then 51-15 over Ball State on 19 September. The 36-point Ball State win is the largest margin in the sample, and it is this season’s only home game against an FBS team.

2026 so far

Liberty is 3-1 and 2-1 against FBS teams. It lost 20-13 at James Madison, then beat Gardner-Webb 24-23, Ball State 51-15 and Coastal Carolina 34-17 on the road on 24 September. Against FBS teams it has scored 32.7 a game and allowed 17.3. The one-point win over Gardner-Webb came against a team outside the FBS, and the method does not count it.

Sam Houston is 1-3 and 0-3 against FBS teams. It lost 24-21 at Troy, 23-17 at home to Tulsa and 49-14 at Texas Tech. The one win was 59-0 over Nicholls, outside the FBS. Against FBS teams it has scored 17.3 and allowed 32.0.

Last season

Liberty went 4-8 in 2025 with an average margin of -0.9. Sam Houston went 2-10 at -20.1, and both of its wins came against FBS teams. The two did not meet in 2025 or so far in 2026.

ESPN’s FPI makes Liberty an 81% favourite. That agrees with the direction of our number.

Pick: Liberty -11.5 or shorter, Sam Houston +18 or more

The threshold is 3 points. Our number is Liberty by 14.7.

  • Liberty is a bet at -11.5, or any shorter number. At -11.5 the gap is 3.2.
  • Sam Houston is a bet at +18 or more. At +18 the gap is 3.3.
  • Liberty -12 through -17.5 is a pass. At -12 the gap is 2.7, and at -17.5 it is 2.8.

The samples are 6 and 9 games, 15 in all.

What changes it

The line, first. It is re-read the week of the game, and the call is the method’s at that price.

The weak spot is Liberty’s home sample. Three of its six home games against FBS teams were losses, and its average of 6.67 leans on one 2026 result, the 36-point win over Ball State. Take that game out and the other five average +0.8, and our number would be 11.8. That is arithmetic to show the sensitivity, and the method does not remove games.
