South Florida at UTSA Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
Our number has UTSA by 7.3. No line yet: UTSA is a bet at -4 or shorter, South Florida at +10.5 or more.
No spread had been posted as of 28 September. Our number is UTSA by 7.3, and a side is a bet when the spread sits at least 3 points from it. That gives one price on each side, with a pass between.
How the number is built
The method in one clause: our number is half the difference between the home team’s average margin at home and the visitor’s average margin on the road, against FBS teams only, over 2025 and 2026 together.
UTSA is 4-2 at home against FBS teams over that span, winning by 18.0 points a game across 6 games. South Florida is 5-3 on the road against FBS teams, winning by 3.5 a game across 8 games. The difference is 14.5 points. Half of it is 7.25, rounded to 7.3.
So the home team is favoured against an unbeaten visitor. South Florida is 4-0. The method does not look at that record directly; it looks at where each game was played.
UTSA at home
UTSA’s home average is built on four big wins: 61-13 over Rice, 48-26 over Tulane and 58-24 over East Carolina in 2025, then 59-45 over Colorado State on 26 September.
The two losses were close. Texas State won 43-36 at UTSA on 6 September 2025, and Army won 27-24 on 29 November 2025. Take out the 48-point Rice game and the other five average 12.0, which would put our number at 4.25. The method keeps every game, and so do we.
South Florida on the road
South Florida won 18-16 at Florida, 63-36 at North Texas and 48-18 at UAB in 2025. It lost 49-12 at Miami, 34-31 at Memphis and 41-38 at Navy.
This season it has won both road games, 28-24 at Army and 14-6 at Bowling Green. Five wins and three losses, and two of the losses came by 3 points.
2026 so far
South Florida is 4-0, 3-0 against FBS teams and 1-0 in the American. It beat Florida International 19-9 and Delaware State 59-17 at home. Against FBS teams it has scored 20.3 a game and allowed 13.0.
UTSA is 3-1 and 2-1 against FBS teams. It beat UT Rio Grande Valley 45-16, won 31-26 at Texas State, lost 30-6 at Texas and beat Colorado State 59-45. Against FBS teams it has scored 32.0 and allowed 33.7. The median total in UTSA’s four games is 59.0 points; in South Florida’s it is 40.0.
That contrast is the shape of the game on paper: a UTSA offence that scores at home against a South Florida defence that has allowed 13.0 a game to FBS teams this season.
Last season and the meeting
South Florida went 9-4 in 2025 with an average margin of +17.1, and lost its bowl 24-10 to Old Dominion on 17 December. UTSA went 7-6 at +6.7, and won its bowl 57-20 over Florida International on 26 December.
They met on 6 November 2025, and South Florida won 55-23 at home. It was a South Florida home game, so neither sample counts it.
ESPN’s FPI makes UTSA a 62.5% favourite, the same direction as our number.
