How the number is built

The method is one clause: our home win chance is the average of the home team’s 2025-26 home win rate and the visitor’s 2025-26 road loss rate, with a win in overtime or a shootout counted as a win.

The Oilers went 22-14-5 at home last season: 22 wins, 14 regulation losses and 5 losses after regulation. That is a 53.7% home win rate over 41 games. The Kraken went 15-20-6 on the road, so they lost 26 of 41, a 63.4% road loss rate. The average of the two unrounded rates, 53.66 and 63.41, is 58.54, which rounds to 58.5% for the Oilers and leaves 41.5% for the Kraken.

The Oilers at home, the Kraken on the road

The Oilers finished 41-30-11 with 93 points, scoring 3.44 goals a game and allowing 3.28, a margin of +0.16. They lost their one playoff series 4-2 to the Anaheim Ducks.

The Kraken finished 34-37-11 with 79 points, scoring 2.76 goals a game and allowing 3.21, a margin of -0.45. They did not reach the playoffs.

The Oilers played 35 one-goal games and went 13-11-11 in them. The Kraken played 29 one-goal games and went 13-5-11 in them. Games that went past 60 minutes: 20 of 82 for the Oilers, 19 of 82 for the Kraken. A loss in any of them counts as a loss in our number.

The teams met four times in 2025-26, and the Oilers won three. The Kraken won 3-2 at home on 25 October; the Oilers won 4-0 on the road on 29 November; the Oilers won 9-4 at home on 4 December; the Oilers won 3-0 at home on 31 March. Four games prove nothing about a fifth.
