How the number is built

The method is one clause: our home win chance is the average of the home team’s 2025-26 home win rate and the visitor’s 2025-26 road loss rate, with a win in overtime or a shootout counted as a win.

The Predators went 21-17-3 at home last season: 21 wins, 17 regulation losses and 3 losses after regulation. That is a 51.2% home win rate over 41 games. The Stars went 24-9-8 on the road, so they lost 17 of 41, a 41.5% road loss rate. The average of the two unrounded rates, 51.22 and 41.46, is 46.34, which rounds to 46.3% for the Predators and leaves 53.7% for the Stars.

It is a new season. Rosters change over a summer, and nothing on this page measures what changed. The 2026-27 season opened on 29 September, and no game from it is in these figures. The evidence is 82 games from last season, 41 at home for the Predators and 41 on the road for the Stars.

The Predators at home, the Stars on the road

At home, the Predators scored 3.10 goals a game and allowed 3.22. The Stars on the road scored 3.51 and allowed 2.78. The visitor scored 0.41 a game more and allowed 0.44 fewer.

The Predators were better at home. On the road they went 17-17-7, four wins fewer than their 21-17-3 at home, and the method uses only the stronger home half. The Stars were weaker on the road than at home, 24-9-8 against 26-11-4. Their road half is the one the method uses.

The Predators finished 38-34-10 with 86 points, scoring 3.01 goals a game and allowing 3.28, a margin of -0.27. They did not reach the playoffs.

The Stars finished 50-20-12 with 112 points, scoring 3.40 goals a game and allowing 2.76, a margin of +0.64. They lost their one playoff series 4-2 to the Minnesota Wild.

The Predators played 38 one-goal games and went 20-8-10 in them. The Stars played 46 one-goal games and went 28-6-12 in them. Games that went past 60 minutes: 20 of 82 for the Predators, 24 of 82 for the Stars. A loss in any of them counts as a loss in our number.

The teams met three times in 2025-26 and the Stars won all three. They won 3-2 on the road on 26 October, 5-4 on the road on 8 November and 3-2 in overtime at home on 28 February. Three games prove nothing about a fourth.

The price
