2025 NHL Conn Smythe Odds and Predictions

Last Updated on

We are in the season of NHL predictions, my friends. You still have time to bet on who will win each NHL Conference, while you can look further ahead and bet on the Stanley Cup champion as well.

It’s all tough to predict no matter when you start, but the good news is we are getting closer to seeing the picture come into focus. If those betting markets weren’t difficult enough to gauge, try the 2024-25 NHL Conn Smythe Trophy on for size.

The Conn Smythe Trophy odds have dropped, which means you can bet on more than just which team will win it all this year; but which player will win the Stanley Cup Finals MVP.

Don’t forget that a player from the losing team won it last year, either. I know, just when you thought NHL betting couldn’t get more complicated, right? That said, I have your back and will break down the latest odds and my prediction for this award.

What Is The Conn Smythe Trophy?

Named after longtime Toronto Maple Leafs owner and head coachConn Smythe, the Conn Smythe Trophy is awarded to the MVP of the Stanley Cup Finals each season.

Who Won The Conn Smythe Trophy 2024?

As I mentioned in the intro, last year’s winner was a bit of a surprise, as the MVP came from the losing team in the series. That was none other than Edmonton’s Connor McDavid, who enjoyed a sensational series despite his team failing to win the title.

One thing is for certain; you’re getting pretty great value with the NHL odds for the Conn Smythe Trophy, no matter who you end up betting on.

As we saw last year, you don’t need to pick a guy from the championship winner, either. Obviously big names like Connor Hellebuyck and Nathan MacKinnon are going to lead the way here, but you’re getting value at every level.

There’s the ageless Alexander Ovechkin, the unstoppable Auston Matthews, and of course the NHL MVP frontrunner, Leon Draisaitl. There’s even the guy who won last year – Connor McDavid. But which of these guys will at least reach the Stanley Cup Finals to give themselves a shot at winning you some cash?

I have my top picks and predictions, and will get to them shortly. However, be sure to check out the top handicappers available online if you need a bit more help betting on markets like this.

Conn Smythe Trophy Favorites

The following NHL players are the odds-on favorites to win the Conn Smythe Trophy:

Sebastian Aho (+1200)

Your top favorite to win the Conn Smythe Trophy is none other than Carolina Hurricanes center, Sebastian Aho. We are knee-deep in the first round of the NHL Playoffs, but I get the appeal, as his squad is up 2-1 in their series and Carolina presently has the best odds (+550) to win the Stanley Cup Finals.

Aho is a big reason why, as he was a balanced performer during the regular season (29 goals, 45 assists, and 74 points), helping the Hurricanes finish second in the Metropolitan Division.

That said, I am slightly surprised that he’s the favorite. Carolina is certainly trending in the right direction (reached the conference finals two years ago), but statistically speaking, he doesn’t stand out as the bet I feel like I have to make.

Of course, if Carolina lives up to their latest Stanley Cup odds and Aho continues to elevate his game, it’s entirely possible he could be an amazing value at this +1200 price tag.

Connor Hellebuyck (+1400)

Someone I feel a bit better about is Connor Hellebuyck, who actually has a shot to be the rare goaltender to make a case for the NHL Hart Trophy

He’s no lock to win just yet, but he’s certainly in the mix with his +100 odds, and it’s possible he could ultimately be in line to claim the same hardware when the Stanley Cup rolls around.

Connor Hellebuyck and his Winnipeg Jets enjoyed a brilliant 2024-25 campaign, as they won more games than anyone else (56) en route to claiming the Central Division crown, as well as the top seed in the NHL playoffs.

Hellebuyck’s stifling defense paved the way for their success. He put up legitimately historic numbers as he allowed just 2.01 goals per game and won a career-high 47 games, while his nasty defense at the net contributed to Winnipeg’s NHL-low 191 goals allowed.

It remains to be seen if Hellebuyck’s defensive brilliance will get him the NHL MVP for the regular season, but if Winnipeg actually reaches the Stanley Cup Finals and his play is at the same level it has been, he’d be a smash value bet.

Sergei Bobrovsky (+2000)

You get a bit more value with someone like Sergei Bobrovsky, who plays a key role in keeping the defending champion Florida Panthers in the mix for a repeat.

Florida shocked us all last year, but they remain a very tough out after winning 47 games and finishing third in the Atlantic Division. Bobrovsky’s defense at the net helped the team limit the opposition to just 223 goals scored on the year, while he had a stout 33-19-2 record.

Sergei Bobrovsky tied for fourth with five shutouts on the season, while his 2.44 goals allowed per game was good for 5th in all of hockey. His production was all the more impressive considering he did it in his age 36 campaign, while he and the Panthers had a target on their back all season after winning the title a year ago.

People are going to gravitate toward offensive players when it comes to any NHL MVP award, but both Hellebuyck and Bobrovsky offer compelling value. Don’t forget, either, that a goalie did win as recently as 2021.

Nathan MacKinnon (+2000)

The last main contender I am high on is Nathan MacKinnon. There are other names to monitor per the latest Conn Smythe betting odds, but we know how gifted he is offensively, and he did just win the NHL MVP last season.

This award isn’t about what he did a year ago or even what his numbers were during this past regular season, though. What actually matters is that MacKinnon is still one of the top talents in the NHL and that his Colorado Avalanche has an offense capable of tearing anyone apart in the playoffs.

Colorado finished the regular season with a solid 49-29-4 mark, put up 277 goals, and ended the year third in the Central Division. Early in the NHL playoffs so far they’re down 2-1 to the Dallas Stars, but due to their offensive aptitude, they’ll be a threat to go the distance until they’re officially ousted.

I am a bit less into MacKinnon than the other three Conn Smythe candidates just because his squad is off to a slow start, but there’s no denying the value his +2000 odds bring to the table.

Best Conn Smythe Trophy Betting Value

The following NHL players offer the best value based on their current odds, NHL Teams, and season to date:

Alexander Ovechkin (+2500)

I don’t really think Alexander Ovechkin is going to win the Conn Smythe Trophy. I’m not even that confident his Washington Capitals are going to get that far.

Don’t get me wrong; even at age 39, Ovechkin is still out there breaking records and putting up insane numbers. The guy just got done putting up a whopping 44 goals (3rd in the NHL), while dishing out 29 assists and scoring 73 points.

Ovechkin is starting to show his age in general, but he can still put the puck in the net with the best of them, and his presence helped Washington win 51 games and claim the top spot in the Metropolitan Division.

More importantly, the Capitals put up 288 goals during the regular season, and they’ve looked to be in strong form early in their first round series with Montreal.

Will the Capitals really get all the way to the Stanley Cup to allow some serious life to be breathed into the “ride off into the sunset” narrative for Ovechkin? Maybe, maybe not.

All I know is that he is a living legend and his team has the offense to go toe-to-toe with literally anyone. And if they do happen to get to the Stanley Cup Finals, this +2500 price would feel like a steal.

Connor McDavid (+3500)

An even better value has to be Connor McDavid, who won this same award last year despite his Edmonton Oilers failing to pull off the series win against the Florida Panthers.

That’s just a testament to the series McDavid enjoyed, and while it’s not a reminder of something we should expect on a yearly basis, it does show us that you don’t have to win the title to win some hardware.

Of course, there are a lot of “probably not’s” McDavid has to mow down before we can cross the bridge of unlikeliness. After all, McDavid doesn’t just have to get back to the Stanley Cup. He probably has to play balls to the wall and absolutely crush. And this time he’d probably have to win.

That isn’t out of the question, however, as Edmonton just saved their season with a wild 7-4 win in their last game. The Oilers admittedly face a steep uphill battle down 2-1 in their first round series with the Los Angeles Kings, but they do have McDavid, as well as a balanced roster that won 48 games and finished third in the ultra competitive Pacific Division.

The price probably tells us all we need to know – McDavid is a not so great bet to win the Conn Smythe award in consecutive seasons. But I don’t mind a cursory glance at him with these +3500 odds.

Top Conn Smythe Trophy Longshot

If you want to take a shot at glory, I think Leon Draisaitl and his gaudy +6600 price tag do the trick. It’s not the safest bet, but if you like McDavid at all, I’d say he’s just as good of a try, if not better.

The star Edmonton Oilers center was sensational during the regular season, putting up more goals (52) than anyone, while also finding the time to chip in 54 assists and rack up 106 points.

Edmonton failed to finish the job in last year’s Stanley Cup and are presently up against it in a first round battle with the L.A. Kings, but never say never.

The safer bet is probably to just back Leon Draisaitl for the NHL MVP award. However, if Edmonton does pull it out and keep trucking along, you won’t be said that you took a chance on his +6600 odds.

Conn Smythe Trophy Predictions

I’ve been on the Winnipeg Jets for a while. I loved them even last year, and going into this season I thought their defensive bite gave them a real chance to make a play for the title.

The Jets have only been around in the NHL since 2011, but they’ve reached even the conference finals just one time in their entire existence. Small sample size, to be sure, but the point is this franchise doesn’t have a lot to be proud about, and after claiming the NHL’s best record, they’re finally morphing into a true threat.

I think this could be their year. I also think last year was an anomaly, so betting on a non-champion winning the Conn Smythe Trophy is probably a big mistake.

Due to that, I am targeting a player on the team I think will win the Stanley Cup. With Winnipeg being my favorite bet, goalie Connor Hellebuyck stands out as an awesome betting value at his +1400 odds.

There are a lot of viale NHL picks for this betting market. It’s still the first round, and zero teams have truly commanding leads in their series as I write this. That will quickly start changing, so be sure to hop on your favorite Conn Smythe bets before the prices adjust.

Bet: Connor Hellebuyck (+1400)
