Mountain West Football Odds have changed considerably as the 2026 college football season approaches. UNLV is now the conference favorite around +280, newly eligible North Dakota State sits close behind at +290 and New Mexico has moved to approximately +300.

The biggest value change belongs to Hawai‘i. The Rainbow Warriors were around +400 earlier in the summer but can now be found near +700 despite returning quarterback Micah Alejado, the Mountain West Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, from a nine-win season.

Our updated Mountain West Championship prediction is UNLV at +280 or better. The Rebels have reached three consecutive conference title games, enter Year 2 under Dan Mullen and no longer have Boise State standing between them and the trophy.

Hawai‘i is our best futures value at +700 or better, while New Mexico becomes more attractive now that its price has lengthened from approximately +220. North Dakota State is a legitimate title contender after the NCAA eliminated the transition restriction that previously kept the Bison out of postseason competition, but +290 is an aggressive price for a program playing its first FBS schedule.

Mountain West Football Odds Update

UNLV now occupies the top position around +280, but there is almost no separation between the Rebels, North Dakota State and New Mexico. All three can currently be found between approximately +280 and +300 at the best available prices.

Air Force forms the next tier around +600, while Hawai‘i has drifted to +700 despite returning one of the conference’s best quarterbacks. That price change creates our favorite current value position.

Wyoming is the first major longshot around +2600. San José State, Nevada, Northern Illinois and UTEP are also available at large prices, but each requires a significant jump from last season to become a legitimate championship threat.

Conference futures can vary substantially between operators. Bettors should compare available prices through the ScoresAndStats sportsbook reviews rather than automatically accepting the first Mountain West number available.

Current Mountain West Championship Odds 2026

The current Mountain West market is extremely compressed at the top.

UNLV is the shortest price around +280, followed by North Dakota State near +290 and New Mexico at +300. Those numbers imply that sportsbooks see very little separation among the three leading programs.

Air Force is the fourth choice around +600. Hawai‘i has fallen to approximately +700 at the best current price, creating a large gap between the Rainbow Warriors and the first three teams despite Hawai‘i returning substantial offensive production.

Prices become much larger after that. Wyoming is around +2600 at the top end of the market, while San José State has recently been listed near +1800 to +2000. Nevada, Northern Illinois and UTEP remain deep longshots.

The Hawai‘i range is particularly important. A +400 ticket and a +700 ticket require completely different evaluations even though the team is identical. Our recommendation requires +600 or better, with +700 representing the preferred entry point.

Mountain West Futures Market Movement

The latest prices are substantially different from the board used in the previous version of this article.

New Mexico was the original favorite near +220 but has now lengthened to +300 at the best current price. UNLV has also moved from +240 to +280, although the Rebels have become the market favorite because New Mexico’s price moved even farther.

Hawai‘i has experienced the largest meaningful move among the established contenders. The Rainbow Warriors have gone from approximately +400 to as long as +700.

The most important new entry is North Dakota State. The Bison were previously missing from the actionable title market because the program was expected to be ineligible during its FBS transition. That restriction has now been removed, and sportsbooks immediately placed NDSU among the top three favorites.

The New-Look Mountain West Conference in 2026

The 2026 Mountain West looks dramatically different after one of the most important realignment cycles in conference history.

Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State and Utah State departed for the Pac-12. Those exits removed several programs that had dominated the Mountain West Championship race for more than a decade.

UTEP joined as a full Mountain West member, while Northern Illinois and North Dakota State joined the football lineup as affiliate members. Hawai‘i, previously a football-only member, also became a full member of the conference.

The result is a 10-team football league with Air Force, Hawai‘i, Nevada, New Mexico, Northern Illinois, North Dakota State, San José State, UNLV, UTEP and Wyoming.

For bettors, the realignment creates a completely open championship race. Boise State beat UNLV in each of the last three Mountain West title games, but the Broncos are no longer available to block the Rebels or anyone else from winning the league.

North Dakota State Is Now Eligible for the Mountain West Championship

North Dakota State was originally expected to spend its first two FBS seasons in a transition period that prevented the Bison from playing in the Mountain West Championship Game, a normal bowl game or the College Football Playoff.

That changed when the NCAA adopted a new reclassification rule during the summer. Beginning August 1, transitioning FCS-to-FBS programs that satisfy the applicable FBS and reclassification requirements can participate in postseason bowl games and the CFP.

The change also cleared North Dakota State to compete for the Mountain West Championship if the Bison finish among the conference’s top two teams.

Sportsbooks reacted immediately. NDSU moved directly into the championship market near +300 and is now approximately +290 at the best current price.

That makes the Bison a completely different betting proposition. NDSU is no longer a team that can influence the standings without winning the conference. Every result now counts toward a legitimate championship and CFP path.

Mountain West Preseason Players to Watch

The official preseason All-Mountain West team provides useful context for a conference filled with new quarterbacks and transfer-heavy rosters.

Hawai‘i quarterback Micah Alejado was selected as the preseason Offensive Player of the Year after throwing for 3,106 yards and a conference-leading 24 touchdowns as a freshman.

New Mexico linebacker Jaxton Eck earned preseason Defensive Player of the Year honors after recording 129 tackles last season. North Dakota State return specialist Jackson Williams received the preseason special teams award.

UNLV placed several important pieces on the preseason All-Mountain West roster, including running back Jai’Den Thomas, wide receiver Taeshaun Lyons and offensive lineman Austin Boyd. Those selections help explain why the Rebels remain the sportsbook favorite even after replacing their starting quarterback.

UNLV Mountain West Championship Prediction

UNLV is our prediction to win the 2026 Mountain West Championship.

The Rebels have reached three consecutive conference championship games, only to lose all three to Boise State. With Boise now competing in the Pac-12, the biggest recurring obstacle to a UNLV title has disappeared.

Dan Mullen enters his second season after guiding the Rebels to another 10-win campaign. The roster has changed, but the offensive upside remains significant.

Former Oklahoma and Auburn quarterback Jackson Arnold transferred to UNLV and brings former five-star talent to the competition under center. Alex Orji also remains part of the quarterback picture, giving Mullen multiple athletic options for an offense that can stress defenses with quarterback movement.

Jai’Den Thomas provides stability in the backfield after a 1,000-yard season, while Taeshaun Lyons gives the passing game a preseason All-Mountain West target.

The defense creates more uncertainty. UNLV lost several leading tacklers and must improve a unit that allowed too many explosive scoring performances last season.

The schedule is manageable enough to accept that concern. The Rebels host North Dakota State and Northern Illinois and close the regular season with Nevada at home. Their most important road games come at Hawai‘i, Air Force, New Mexico and San José State.

UNLV’s early conference opener at Hawai‘i may immediately shape the title race. A road victory there would give the Rebels a critical tiebreaker over one of our strongest value teams.

At +280, UNLV is not a huge value play. The recommendation is based on championship probability rather than payout.

Mountain West Championship Prediction: UNLV at +280 or better.

New Mexico Mountain West Championship Prediction

New Mexico becomes more interesting as its price gets longer.

The Lobos went 9-4 last season under Jason Eck and produced their first winning campaign in nearly a decade. That breakthrough pushed New Mexico to approximately +220 earlier in the summer.

The current +300 price is much easier to justify.

Jaxton Eck gives the defense an established centerpiece after his 129-tackle season. Brian Booker and other returning defenders also give New Mexico enough experience to remain difficult to attack.

Quarterback is the main concern. Jack Layne and Luke Moga entered the preseason as important options at the position, and New Mexico needs more efficiency there to match the championship expectations created by last year’s record.

Regression is another concern. The Lobos won several close conference games in 2025, and one-score performance can swing quickly from season to season.

The schedule, however, gives New Mexico a major opportunity. The Lobos host UTEP, North Dakota State, UNLV and Air Force. Three of the most important championship contenders therefore have to visit Albuquerque.

At +220, we were reluctant to chase the favorite. At +300, New Mexico belongs back on the betting card.

Best Secondary Mountain West Value: New Mexico at +300 or better.

North Dakota State Mountain West Prediction

North Dakota State is the most fascinating team in the 2026 Mountain West.

The Bison bring one of the most successful cultures in FCS history into their first FBS season. The program has repeatedly demonstrated that it can develop offensive linemen, defend the run and win close postseason games.

NDSU also enters with enough respected personnel to immediately earn preseason All-Mountain West representation. Griffin Empey leads the offensive-line group, while Keenan Wilson and Darius Givance give the defense experienced pieces. Jackson Williams is already the conference’s preseason special teams player of the year.

The problem is the current +290 price.

North Dakota State is moving into a deeper weekly schedule while replacing several important playmakers. Even an elite FCS program has to prove that its depth can survive a full FBS season rather than one isolated upset opportunity.

The road schedule is especially difficult. NDSU visits Air Force, UNLV, New Mexico and Hawai‘i in conference play. Those are four of the other five teams priced at +700 or shorter.

The Bison can absolutely win the Mountain West. We simply do not believe +290 pays enough for the uncertainty attached to Year 1.

NDSU Championship View: Pass near +290. Consider only if the price reaches +400 or better.

Hawai‘i Mountain West Championship Prediction

Hawai‘i is our best overall futures value at +700 or better.

The Rainbow Warriors went 9-4 last season and finished the year with a Hawai‘i Bowl victory over California. More importantly, Alejado returns after one of the best freshman quarterback seasons in the country.

Alejado completed 285 passes for 3,106 yards and 24 touchdowns while averaging more than 280 passing yards per game. He was fully back on the practice field when fall camp began after using the offseason to recover from the leg and ankle issues he played through last year.

That quarterback continuity is extremely valuable in a conference where UNLV, New Mexico and North Dakota State all enter with greater uncertainty at the position.

There is one important health concern. Preseason All-Mountain West receiver Pofele Ashlock has missed time during fall camp with an undisclosed injury. His availability needs to be monitored because he remains one of Alejado’s most important targets.

The conference schedule is what pushes Hawai‘i onto our final card.

UNLV, New Mexico and North Dakota State all have to travel to the islands. San José State also visits Hawai‘i. That gives the Rainbow Warriors home-field advantage against three of the four teams sitting above them in the futures market.

The difficult part comes on the road. Hawai‘i travels to Wyoming, Northern Illinois, UTEP and Nevada, and the program has historically been less reliable away from home.

Still, the move from +400 to +700 is too large to ignore. We do not need Hawai‘i to be more likely to win the conference than UNLV. We need its true championship probability to be better than the price implies.

Best Mountain West Futures Value: Hawai‘i at +700 or better.

Air Force Mountain West Championship Prediction

Air Force is the schedule-based value option at +600.

The Falcons struggled last season, but their option offense remains capable of creating major preparation problems for teams that rarely see that style.

Quarterback Liam Szarka gives Air Force an important piece around which to build the offense, while preseason All-Mountain West running back Owen Allen adds proven rushing production.

The bigger issue is defense. Air Force allowed too many explosive performances last season and must improve substantially before we can trust the Falcons as a primary championship pick.

The schedule gives them a chance to do exactly that. NDSU and UNLV both visit the Academy. Air Force avoids Hawai‘i entirely and closes the season at New Mexico in a game that could carry championship implications.

At +600, Air Force is worth consideration as a smaller futures position. It is not strong enough to move ahead of Hawai‘i on our value board.

Best Schedule-Based Value: Air Force at +600 or better.

Wyoming Mountain West Championship Longshot

Wyoming is our preferred deep longshot at +2500 or better.

The Cowboys finished 4-8 last season and were one of the conference’s weakest offensive teams, so this is not a prediction that Wyoming suddenly becomes the league’s most complete roster.

The case is based on price, change and schedule leverage.

William & Mary transfer Tyler Hughes gives Wyoming a new option at quarterback, while a new offensive structure should create a much different attack from the one that struggled last season.

The defense retains preseason All-Mountain West linebacker Ethan Stuhlsatz, and Laramie remains one of the most uncomfortable road environments in the conference.

Hawai‘i, Northern Illinois, Air Force and New Mexico all visit Wyoming during conference play. That gives the Cowboys several opportunities to create tiebreaker value at home.

A +2600 future should remain a small speculative position only. Wyoming still needs too many things to improve to justify the same stake as UNLV, Hawai‘i or New Mexico.

Best Deep Mountain West Longshot: Wyoming at +2500 or better.

2026 Mountain West Football Contender Tiers

The current futures board can be separated into four useful groups.

UNLV, New Mexico and North Dakota State form the top tier. All three are priced at +300 or shorter and would be expected to reach the title game if the season followed sportsbook probability exactly.

Hawai‘i and Air Force form the value tier. Both have realistic championship-game paths without asking bettors to pay a favorite’s price.

Wyoming and San José State are the live longshots. Nevada, Northern Illinois and UTEP need more dramatic improvement before becoming priority futures positions.

Best Mountain West Football Win Total Bets

Mountain West win totals vary significantly between sportsbooks, making the exact number more important than the direction of the pick.

North Dakota State under 9.5 is our favorite if that number remains available. A 10-win season would be an extraordinary FBS debut, especially with conference road games at Air Force, UNLV, New Mexico and Hawai‘i.

The wager changes completely at 8.5. Nine wins are much more realistic than 10, so bettors should not automatically follow the under after losing a full game of value.

UNLV over 7.5 remains attractive. The Rebels have reached double-digit wins in three consecutive seasons and finally play a Mountain West schedule without Boise State. At 8.5, the margin becomes much thinner.

Hawai‘i over seven is another attractive position. Over 7.5 is still playable at plus money if Ashlock returns healthy, but the injury uncertainty prevents us from making it our top win-total wager.

New Mexico is a pass around eight or 8.5 victories. The Lobos could remain one of the conference’s best teams and still regress from last year’s close-game success.

Best Mountain West Win Total Bet: North Dakota State under 9.5 wins. Pass if the market has already fallen to 8.5.

Key Games That Could Decide the Mountain West Championship

The Mountain West title race starts almost immediately.

UNLV travels to Hawai‘i on September 5 in the first conference game of the season. Because both teams are on our final futures card, that matchup can create a major swing in championship probability before most teams have even played a league game.

NDSU begins conference play at Air Force on September 12, providing the Bison with an immediate test of their ability to handle a unique FBS road environment and the Falcons’ option offense.

October becomes the most important month. NDSU travels to UNLV on October 10, New Mexico visits Hawai‘i on October 17 and NDSU then travels to New Mexico on October 24.

The November 14 slate may be even bigger. North Dakota State visits Hawai‘i while UNLV travels to New Mexico. Four of the five shortest-priced teams could therefore reshape the standings on the same Saturday.

When Is the 2026 Mountain West Championship Game?

The 2026 Mountain West Football Championship Game is scheduled for Friday, December 4.

The game will be televised nationally on FOX at 8 p.m. CT, 7 p.m. MT, 6 p.m. PT and 4 p.m. HT.

The conference no longer uses divisions. The two teams with the highest conference winning percentages advance to the title game.

Unlike the MAC Championship at a neutral site, the Mountain West title game will be hosted by the highest-seeded qualifying team. That makes the race for the best conference record important for both qualification and home-field advantage.

There will also be a new champion in 2026. Boise State won the previous three Mountain West Championship Games but moved to the Pac-12 before this season.

Can the Mountain West Champion Make the College Football Playoff?

Yes, but winning the Mountain West does not automatically guarantee a College Football Playoff berth.

The 2026-27 CFP remains a 12-team tournament. The ACC, Big Ten, Big 12 and SEC champions receive conference-champion positions, while one additional guaranteed berth goes to the highest-ranked champion from the American, Conference USA, MAC, Mountain West, Pac-12 or Sun Belt.

The Mountain West champion therefore needs to finish ahead of the champions from those other conferences in the final CFP rankings to claim that automatic spot. An at-large selection is also theoretically possible but would require an exceptional résumé.

UNLV has one of the cleanest possible paths. The Rebels open against Memphis and also host California, giving them opportunities to add useful nonconference victories before navigating the Mountain West schedule.

Hawai‘i opens at Stanford and later plays Arizona State, while New Mexico travels to Oklahoma. NDSU begins its first FBS season against Jacksonville State and also plays a nonconference road game at Sacramento State.

The ideal Mountain West CFP candidate probably needs to finish 11-1 or 12-1 with a conference title and at least one quality nonconference victory.

North Dakota State is now part of that discussion. The Bison’s transition status no longer prevents them from reaching the College Football Playoff if they satisfy the eligibility requirements and build a qualifying résumé.

Recent Mountain West Football Champions

The recent championship list demonstrates just how different the conference is entering 2026.

Boise State won the last three titles, beating UNLV each time. Fresno State won in 2022, Utah State in 2021 and San José State in 2020.

Boise State, Fresno State and Utah State are now in the Pac-12, leaving San José State as the only program from the last six champions still competing in the Mountain West.

That guarantees a fresh championship story unless the Spartans recreate their 2020 run.

Final Mountain West Football Odds and Predictions

UNLV remains our prediction to win the Mountain West. The Rebels have reached the championship game three consecutive years, return important offensive skill talent and finally enter a season without Boise State occupying the role of conference gatekeeper.

Hawai‘i is the better value wager. Alejado gives the Rainbow Warriors the most established quarterback production among the primary contenders, and UNLV, New Mexico and North Dakota State all have to travel to the islands.

New Mexico is the secondary value position. The Lobos were difficult to recommend at +220 but become much more interesting around +300, especially with several major contenders visiting Albuquerque.

North Dakota State deserves genuine championship respect now that the Bison are eligible, but the +290 price requires too much confidence in an immediate transition to FBS depth. The difficult road schedule makes under 9.5 wins a better way to approach NDSU at the current numbers.

Air Force is the schedule-based sleeper, while Wyoming is the preferred deep longshot at +2500 or longer.

Our projected Mountain West Championship matchup is UNLV against Hawai‘i, with the Rebels finally breaking through after three consecutive runner-up finishes.
