It won’t be long before the world’s best golfers descend up Augusta National Golf Club to partake in the first major tournament of the 2021 season – The Masters.
Last year, it was Dustin Johnson who captured his first Masters. Johnson also finished second at the PGA Championship for the second consecutive year. He maintains the world’s No. 1 ranking.
The big question is whether or not Johnson, as well as the other top golfers in the world, will win a coveted major in 2021.
Here’s who to bet on to win a major in 2021.
The Safe Bet
Johnson has been the world’s top-ranked golfer for over 100 consecutive weeks. His record speaks for itself. Johnson has 28 professional wins that include two majors – last year’s Masters plus the 2016 U.S. Open.
He is the favorite to win this year’s Masters at +550 and the favorite to finally capture a PGA Championship (+850).
Betting Johnson to win a major tournament this year is the safe play. He’s the world’s No. 1-ranked golfer, right? Johnson is given +170 odds to win a major this year. It’s not a huge payout, but it is the safe bet.

Rory McIlroy
McIlroy has won four majors, but has not scored a victory since 2014. That year, McIlroy won both the PGA and the The Open Championships. He’s an early favorite for to capture his first Masters. McIlroy is given +1000 odds.
He hasn’t won a major in six seasons and taking the “No” bet on winning a major is listed at -310. McIlroy is currently ranked eighth in the world and is still just 31 years old. He will be among the favorites in all four majors this season. The “Yes” bet pays out at +225 and since McIlroy hasn’t won a major in six years, there are others worthy of a wager.
Better Bets
Last year, Collin Morikawa snuck up on everybody and won the PGA Championship. Bettors capitalized on that one and could do the same in 2021 with a bet on Morikawa to win another major.
At just 24 years of age, Morikawa has got a long career ahead of him. He is currently ranked No. 6 in the world and could very well win a major this year. Already, he is a longshot to win the PGA again listed at +2700.
At +625 to win a major this year, Morikawa is worth the risk. So is Jordan Spieth.
Spieth has three major titles to his name. He won the Masters and the U.S. Open in 2015 as well as The Open Championship in 2017. Spieth is definitely off the radar. He’s ranked 61 st in the world right now.
Spieth has struggled for most of the past three seasons. He’s listed early at +1400 to win the Masters. He’ll continue to be overlooked until he surprises the golf world. At 27, Spieth still has what it takes to win more major titles. That’s why betting on him at +450 to win a major this year makes sense.
Best Bets
In addition to Johnson and McIlroy, three other golfers offer bettors value. Brooks Koepka, Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas.
Koepka has the most major championship of the three. He took the PGA in 2018 and 2019 and the U.S. Open in 2017 and 2018. He is listed at a safe +250 to win a major this year. Koepka is ranked 12th in the world.
Thomas has a single major victory to his name. He won the 2017 PGA Championship. Thomas is ranked No.3 in the world and is listed at +330 to win a major in 2021.
Rahm, the world’s second-ranked golfer, has yet to win a major tournament. His best major finish was a tie for third in the 2019 U.S. Open. Like Koepka, Rahm is given +250 odds to win a major this year.
The Longshot
If there is a true longshot candidate to win a major tournament in 2021, it’s South Korean star Sungjae Im. At just 22 years of age, Im was the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year in 2019.
He finished tied for second at last year’s Masters, so you know he has the ability to compete. Im is listed at +1200 to win his first-ever major. With his skill set, he’s worth a wager.
