Pick the Mystics – Dream at Mystics prediction, odds and best picks
My number is Atlanta by 0.8 and the market has the Dream by 3.5. Take the Mystics at +2 or longer.
Update, 29 September, 20:00 UTC: DraftKings now has Washington +4.5 (Atlanta -4.5), a point more than when this was written. The pick stands, at a better number.
DraftKings has Atlanta -3.5 at -115 and Washington +3.5 at -105, read at 16:39 UTC on 28 September. The gap between my number and that price is 2.7 points. Atlanta leads the best-of-three first-round series 1-0 after winning Game 1 92-77 in Atlanta on 27 September. Every figure below comes from the 2026 regular season, so Game 1 is not in any of them.
The number
Both teams finished with a winning record, so my figure takes each side’s games against winning opponents only: Washington’s home games and Atlanta’s road games. Washington is 5-5 in those ten home games and loses them by 1.1 points on average. Atlanta is 7-6 in its thirteen road games against winning teams and wins them by 0.5. Half the difference between the two is Atlanta by 0.8.
I play a side when my number and the price are at least a point apart. That makes Washington a bet at +2 or longer. Anywhere from Dream -1.5 to a pick’em is a pass, and Atlanta becomes the bet only as an underdog.
The market has moved toward Atlanta since the open. DraftKings opened the Dream at -2.5, and the moneyline has gone from -130 to -166, with Washington out from +110 to +140.
ESPN’s matchup predictor gives Atlanta a 60.5% chance to win, against 60.0% in the DraftKings moneyline. It agrees with the market. I do not, and the gap is wide enough to bet.
The samples
Washington’s ten home games against winning teams were mostly close. Seven of the ten were decided by five points or fewer, and the widest was a 62-49 loss to Golden State on 6 July.
Atlanta’s thirteen road games spread wider, from an 18-point win at New York on 23 September to a 15-point loss at Minnesota on 27 May. Here the edge survives losing the most flattering game on each side. Take away Washington’s best game, a 6-point win over Dallas on 31 July, and Atlanta’s worst, the loss at Minnesota, and my number moves to Atlanta by 1.85. Against a line of 3.5 that is still a bet.
The season series
Washington won two of the three regular-season meetings, both at home and both by five: 81-76 on 2 July and 79-74 on 7 August. Atlanta won the other at home, 109-77 on 6 June.
Both Washington wins are in my number, in both teams’ splits. Three meetings is too few to price on their own, and the two in this building were decided by five points each.
Form
Atlanta finished the regular season 9-1 over its last ten, winning by 15.6 a game, and won its last five. Its only loss in that stretch was an 18-point home defeat to Portland on 28 August. The run closed with two road wins at New York, by 11 on 21 September and 18 on 23 September.
Washington went 8-2 over its last ten, winning by 8.1 a game, and won its last four, including a 30-point win at Chicago on 17 September.
Both teams played Game 1 on 27 September, so neither carries a rest edge into Wednesday.
The total
DraftKings has the total at 164.5, unchanged from its opening number, with -110 on both sides. My method prices the side only, so the total is not a bet here. Atlanta’s games have a median total of 179 this season and Washington’s have 169. Atlanta went over 164.5 in 30 of its 44 games; Washington did in 22 of 44.
The two meetings in Washington landed at 157 and 153, under this number. The one in Atlanta landed at 186. Three games settle nothing about a total.
Pick: Mystics +3.5
Pick: Washington Mystics +3.5, playable to +2. My number is Atlanta by 0.8. Price read at DraftKings, 28 September 2026 at 16:39 UTC.
What would change it: a line of Dream -1.5 or shorter is a pass, and Atlanta as an underdog makes the Dream the bet. This piece carries no injury information and none is claimed; a reported change to either starting lineup would also change the call.
