Army vs Memphis Best Pick, Prediction and Odds

No bet on Memphis -6.5. Our number has Memphis by 4.5, and a 2-point gap is short of the 3 we need.

Army Black Knights at Memphis Tigers kicks off Saturday 31 October at 8:00 PM ET at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. It is an American Conference game, and neither team is ranked in the AP Poll, Week 9. Memphis is a 6.5-point favorite at DraftKings. Our number is Memphis by 4.5. The gap is 2.0 points on Army’s side, and the threshold for a bet is 3.

The prices and what they say

The moneyline has Memphis at -218 and Army at +180. A book builds a margin into every pair of prices, so the two implied chances add to more than 100%. Take that margin out and fair prices add to 100%: Memphis wins 65.7% of the time and Army 34.3%. ESPN’s FPI gives the same split, 65.7% to 34.3%.

The moneyline is context here. Our method stakes the spread.

How Memphis by 4.5 is reached

Our number is half the difference between the home team’s average margin at home and the visitor’s average margin on the road. It counts FBS opponents only, over 2025 and 2026 together. Bowl and playoff games are at neutral sites, so they are left out.

Memphis is 6-2 at home against FBS teams over that span, winning by 9.4 points a game across 8 games. Army is 6-3 on the road against FBS teams, with an average margin of +0.3 across 9 games. Half the difference between those two rates is 4.5, so our line is Memphis -4.5.

Moneyline implies Army 34.3 percent, Memphis 65.7 percentChance to win the game, as pricedArmy 34.3%Memphis 65.7%From DraftKings's moneylines, Army +180 and Memphis -218, margin removed.

Both samples clear the 4-game minimum the rule sets. The market sits at Memphis -6.5. That leaves a 2.0-point gap toward Army, under the 3-point threshold, so the rule gives no bet.

This season so far

The records below are outside our number except where a game falls in one of the two halves. Memphis is 6-2 overall, 3-1 in conference and 4-0 at home. Against FBS teams it is 5-2, with a margin of +10.7 a game; across all eight games it scores 36.1 and allows 23.8, a margin of +12.4. Its most recent game was a 41-34 home win over East Carolina on Thursday 22 October.

Army is 5-2 overall and 4-1 in conference, 4-2 against FBS teams. Its FBS margin is +6.0 a game. Across all seven games it scores 35.3 and allows 22.1, a margin of +13.1, a figure lifted by a 59-3 win over Bryant, a team outside the FBS. Army last played on Friday 23 October and won 38-35 at Tulsa.

The two teams share one opponent this season. Memphis lost 31-17 at Tulane on 16 October. Army beat Tulane 20-17 at home on 10 October. One game each, at different venues, tells us nothing measurable, and neither result changes the method.

Memphis at home, Army on the road

Memphis’s three home games against FBS teams this season were all wins: 42-24 over Arkansas State, 38-13 over UAB and 41-34 over East Carolina. Its fourth home win, 45-21 over UT Martin, came against a team outside the FBS and is not in the sample. The rest of the 8-game home sample is from 2025, when Memphis was 4-2 at home overall.

Army’s three road games this season were all against FBS teams. It won 21-17 at Temple, lost 31-29 at Louisiana Tech and won 38-35 at Tulsa. The 9-game road sample’s average of +0.3 says Army’s road games are close, and this season’s three scores fit it. Army went 4-2 on the road in 2025.

The method leaves out Memphis on the road and Army at home. Memphis won 27-21 at UNLV and 59-8 at Charlotte, and lost 38-20 at Boise State and 31-17 at Tulane. Army lost 28-24 at home to South Florida, then beat Tulane 20-17 and Florida Atlantic 56-24. Those games describe both teams, but not the venue this game is played at.

Last season and the meetings

Memphis went 8-5 in 2025, 7-5 against FBS teams, with an average margin of +9.3. Its season ended with a 31-7 loss to NC State on 19 December 2025, at a neutral site. Army went 7-6, also 7-5 against FBS teams, at +2.2 a game. It beat UConn 41-16 on 27 December 2025, also at a neutral site. Both bowl games are outside our number.

Army and Memphis have not played each other in 2025 or 2026, so no meeting is inside our number.

Pick: No bet

No bet on either side. Our line is Memphis -4.5 and the market is Memphis -6.5, read 30 October 2026 at 00:40 UTC at DraftKings via ESPN, priced -108 on Memphis and -112 on Army. The gap is 2.0 points against a 3-point threshold. Memphis opened at -6.

The price is close enough to our number that the rule says pass. The market has Memphis a little stronger than our 17 games do, and 2 points is inside what those samples can tell apart.

What kills the bet

A move in the line turns the pass into a bet. Army becomes the bet at +7.5 or better. Memphis becomes the bet at -1.5 or better. Between those two prices, the call stays no bet.

The ESPN game page, read 30 October 2026 at 00:39 UTC, lists no injuries for this game. That is not a statement that everyone is available. Check the lineups before you bet.

The total

The total is 60.5, from 56.5 at the open. The over is -108 and the under -112, at DraftKings, read 30 October 2026 at 00:40 UTC.

Against FBS teams across 2025 and 2026, Memphis’s games went over this total in 7 of 19, and Army’s in 3 of 18. This season Memphis’s seven FBS games produced 48, 66, 58, 67, 51, 48 and 75 points. Army’s six produced 52, 38, 60, 37, 80 and 73.

No bet on the total. Our method stakes the spread only, and those counts are a count, not a number we price. They sit on the under side of 60.5, and that is as far as they go.
