LSU at Kentucky Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
Our number has Kentucky by 4.1. Kentucky is a bet at -1 or anything better, underdog prices included; LSU only at +7.5 or longer.
No line has been posted for this game as of 28 September 2026. Our number is Kentucky by 4.1 at home against No. 11 LSU, and a side becomes a bet when the spread sits at least 3 points away from it. Until a price exists, the call is the two prices at which it becomes one.
How the number is built
The method is one clause: our number is half the difference between the home team’s average margin at home and the visitor’s average margin on the road, against FBS teams only, 2025 and 2026 together.
No. 24 Kentucky is 4-4 at home against FBS teams over that span, winning by 3.5 points a game across 8 games. LSU is 1-5 on the road against FBS teams, losing by 4.7 a game across 6 games. The difference is 8.2 points. Half of it, rounded, is 4.1.
The number favours the lower-ranked team, and it does so because of where the game is played. LSU was 6-1 at home and 1-4 on the road in 2025, and the method counts only the road games.
LSU on the road
LSU’s one road win in the sample is 17-10 at Clemson to open 2025. It then lost 24-19 at Ole Miss, 31-24 at Vanderbilt, 20-9 at Alabama and 17-13 at Oklahoma, and on 19 September this year it lost 32-24 at Ole Miss again.
Every one of those five losses was by 11 points or fewer, and three were by 7 or fewer. The five losses average 7.0 points.
Kentucky at home
Kentucky beat Toledo 24-16, Eastern Michigan 48-23 and Florida 38-7 in 2025, and South Alabama 45-21 on 26 September. It lost 30-23 to Ole Miss, 16-13 to Texas and 56-34 to Tennessee last season, and 45-17 to Alabama on 12 September.
Four and four, with a 3.5 average. The two 2026 home games against FBS teams split the same way: a 28-point loss and a 24-point win.
2026 so far
LSU is 3-1 and 1-1 in the SEC. It beat Clemson 51-10, Louisiana Tech 45-14 and Texas A&M 35-6, all at home, and lost at Ole Miss. All four opponents are FBS teams, and LSU has scored 38.8 points a game and allowed 15.5.
Kentucky is also 3-1 and 1-1 in the SEC, and has won two in a row. It beat Youngstown State 45-13, a team outside the FBS, won 31-21 at Texas A&M on 19 September and then beat South Alabama. Against its three FBS opponents it has scored 31.0 a game and allowed 29.0.
Both teams have played Texas A&M this season. LSU beat it by 29 at home; Kentucky beat it by 10 on the road.
ESPN’s FPI takes the other side of our number, with LSU at 77.5% to win and Kentucky at 22.5%.
Last season
LSU went 7-6 in 2025 and won by 3.0 points a game. It was 6-1 at home and 1-4 on the road, and ended the season with a 38-35 loss to Houston on 27 December at a neutral site.
Kentucky went 5-7 and lost by 3.4 a game, 4-3 at home and 1-4 on the road. The two teams did not meet in 2025.
Pick: Kentucky -1 or better, LSU +7.5 or longer
There is no price to bet yet. At Kentucky -1 the gap to our 4.1 is 3.1 and Kentucky is the bet, as it is at pick’em or as an underdog; at Kentucky -1.5 the gap is 2.6, a pass. At Kentucky -7.5 the gap is 3.4 and LSU +7.5 is the bet; at -7 it is 2.9, a pass.
Anything from Kentucky -1.5 to -7 is no bet. The number rests on 14 games, split 8 and 6.
