Northwestern vs Oregon Best Pick, Prediction and Odds

Our prediction has Oregon by 12.7. At -3.5, take Oregon.

Oregon is a 3.5-point favorite over No. 20 Northwestern at DraftKings, read 30 October 2026 at 00:40 UTC. Our number is Oregon by 12.7. That leaves a 9.2-point gap toward Oregon, and the threshold for a bet is 3.

Northwestern at Oregon kicks off Saturday 31 October at 3:30 PM ET, at Autzen Stadium in Eugene. It is a Big Ten game between a 6-1 visitor and a 4-3 home team, and the spread prices it far closer than our number does.

The prices and what they say

Both sides of the spread are priced at -110: Oregon -3.5, Northwestern +3.5. Oregon opened at -7.5.

The moneyline has Oregon at -175 and Northwestern at +145. A book builds a margin into its prices, the extra that makes the two sides add to more than 100%. With the margin removed, those prices give Oregon a 60.9% chance to win and Northwestern 39.1%. ESPN’s FPI has Oregon at 70.2%.

How 12.7 is reached

Our number is half the difference between the home team’s average margin at home and the visitor’s average margin on the road, against FBS teams only, 2025 and 2026 together. Bowl and playoff games are played at neutral sites, so they are left out of both halves.

Oregon is 8-2 at home against FBS teams over that span, 10 games, winning by 17.3 points a game. Northwestern is 2-5 on the road against FBS teams, 7 games, losing by 8.1 a game. Half the difference between 17.3 and -8.1 is 12.7. Both samples clear the 4-game minimum the rule sets.

Moneyline implies Northwestern 39.1 percent, Oregon 60.9 percentChance to win the game, as pricedNorthwestern 39.1%Oregon 60.9%From DraftKings's moneylines, Northwestern +145 and Oregon -175, margin removed.

This season so far

None of what follows is in our number. Oregon is 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the Big Ten, on a one-game losing streak. Against FBS teams it is 3-3 with an average margin of +0.5. Its season-wide margin of +12.4 includes an 84-0 win over Portland State, a team outside the FBS.

Oregon’s 2026 results in order: beat Boise State 34-27 at home, lost 39-31 at Oklahoma State, beat Portland State 84-0, won 41-27 at USC, lost 17-15 at home to UCLA, beat Nebraska 17-14 at home, and lost 21-10 at Illinois on 24 October.

Northwestern is 6-1, 3-1 in the Big Ten, and has won four straight. Against FBS teams it is 5-1 with an average margin of +18.5, scoring 34.7 points a game overall and allowing 16.6. Its one loss was 29-23 at Indiana on 25 September.

This season points the other way from our number. Northwestern has been the better team in 2026 by a wide margin, and the case for Oregon rests on the two-season sample.

Oregon at home, Northwestern on the road

Oregon’s three home games against FBS teams this season were tight: 34-27 over Boise State, a 17-15 loss to UCLA, and 17-14 over Nebraska on 17 October. The rest of its home half comes from 2025, when Oregon went 7-1 at home in all games. That is the weak point of the number: the home half leans on last season’s Oregon.

Northwestern has played two road games this season, losing 29-23 at Indiana and winning 24-21 at Michigan State on 17 October. In 2025 it was 1-4 on the road. The road half is mostly last season’s Northwestern too.

The method leaves out the other two halves. Oregon went 5-0 on the road in 2025 and is 1-2 on the road this season. Northwestern is 5-0 at home in 2026, with wins of 41-7 over Colorado, 34-13 over Penn State, 45-14 over Ball State and 42-14 over Rutgers, plus 34-18 over South Dakota State.

The season around it

Oregon went 13-2 in 2025 with an average margin of +19.1. It beat James Madison 51-34 at home on 20 December 2025 and Texas Tech 23-0 at a neutral site on 1 January 2026, then lost 56-22 to Indiana at a neutral site on 9 January 2026.

Northwestern went 7-6 in 2025 at +3.5 a game, 5-2 at home and 1-4 on the road. It closed with a 34-7 win over Central Michigan at a neutral site on 26 December 2025.

The two teams played once in this span. Oregon won 34-14 at Northwestern on 13 September 2025. That was an Oregon road game and a Northwestern home game, so it sits in neither half of our number.

Pick: Oregon -3.5

Oregon -3.5 at -110, DraftKings via ESPN, read 30 October 2026 at 00:40 UTC. Oregon opened at -7.5.

The gap is 9.2 points against a 3-point threshold. It rests on 10 Oregon home games and 7 Northwestern road games, both mostly from 2025.

What kills the bet

The line. Oregon stays a bet out to -9.7, where the gap reaches the 3-point threshold. Past that, the call becomes a pass. Northwestern would need +15.7 or better to be the bet.

The risk is 2026. Northwestern is +18.5 a game against FBS teams this season and Oregon is +0.5, and Oregon has lost three of its six FBS games. Our number trusts two seasons over seven weeks.

The total

The total is 47.5, down from 50.5 at the open. The over and the under are both -110.

Against FBS teams across 2025 and 2026, Oregon’s games went over 47.5 in 13 of 20, and Northwestern’s in 9 of 18. This season Oregon’s six FBS games produced 61, 70, 68, 32, 31 and 31 points, the last three all under. Northwestern’s produced 48, 52, 47, 59, 45 and 56.
