How 10.7 is reached
Our number is half the difference between the home team’s average margin at home and the visitor’s average margin on the road. It counts FBS opponents only, over 2025 and 2026 together, and leaves out bowl and playoff games as neutral.
Charlotte is 0-7 at home against FBS teams over that span, losing by 28.0 points a game. Tulane is 4-6 on the road against FBS teams, losing by 6.7 a game. Half the difference is 10.7 points in Tulane’s favor.
The samples are 7 games and 10 games. Both clear the 4-game minimum the rule sets. Against the 8.5 at DraftKings, the gap is 2.2 points.
Charlotte at home, Tulane on the road
Two of Charlotte’s seven home games against FBS teams are from this season: a 34-7 loss to Louisiana on 26 September and a 59-8 loss to Memphis on 3 October. The rest are from 2025, when Charlotte went 0-11 against FBS teams. Its 43-41 home loss to The Citadel on 5 September is outside the number, because The Citadel is not an FBS team.
Tulane’s three road games this season were losses: 17-3 at Duke, 31-20 at Kansas State and 20-17 at Army on 10 October. The road wins in the sample all come from 2025, when Tulane went 4-3 away from home. That makes Tulane’s half of the number mostly last season’s team.
The halves the method leaves out point the same way. Tulane is 3-1 at home this season and went 7-0 at home in 2025. Charlotte is 1-3 on the road this season, the one win a 38-31 result at Temple on 17 October, and went 0-5 on the road in 2025.
This season so far
None of what follows is in our number. Tulane is 3-4, 1-2 in the American Conference, scoring 20.3 points a game and allowing 24.6, a margin of -4.3. All seven of its games have been against FBS teams. Its last game was a 42-19 home loss to UTSA on 24 October, after a 31-17 home win over Memphis on 16 October.
Charlotte is 1-6, 1-2 in conference, scoring 19.1 and allowing 40.6, a margin of -21.4. Against FBS teams alone it is 1-5 with a margin of -24.7 a game. Its streak is one win, the result at Temple.
On this season’s FBS margins, Tulane is -4.3 and Charlotte -24.7. That gap is wider than the spread, but it is outside the method and the method does not move for it.
Last season and the meeting
Tulane went 11-3 in 2025, scoring 27.7 points a game and allowing 23.9, a margin of +3.8. It lost 41-10 to Ole Miss on 20 December 2025 in the postseason. Charlotte went 1-11 at -22.0 a game, scoring 14.3 and allowing 36.3.
The two teams met once in the span. Tulane won 27-0 on 29 November 2025, at Tulane. That was a Tulane home game, so it is not in our number, which uses only Charlotte at home and Tulane on the road.
