Colts at Steelers prediction: No bet at Steelers -2.5

No bet on Colts at Steelers at Pittsburgh -2.5. Last season’s scores put this game within about a point of the market, on the side and on the total.

Watch what Indianapolis looks like after the first month. Last season the Colts won seven of their first eight games and one of their last nine. Which of those two teams turns up in Pittsburgh is the question the price is already asking.

How I make the call

Same working every week. Each team’s points per game from last season, averaged with what the other side allowed, gives me a score for the game. When that score and the market’s number are a field goal or more apart, and I can see in the results why the market sits where it does, I bet.

The first half does not hold. Indianapolis scored 27.4 a game last season and Pittsburgh allowed 22.8, so the Colts come out at 25.1. Pittsburgh scored 23.4 and Indianapolis allowed 24.2, so the Steelers come out at 23.8. That is the Colts by 1.3 on a neutral field, and Pittsburgh by about 1.2 once the Steelers get two and a half for home field.

The market has Pittsburgh by 2.5 at DraftKings and BetUS, and by 2 at Caesars. My number is 1.3 points away at most. That is well short of a field goal, and I don’t bet a gap that small.

The tell

The Colts’ season split in two. They were 7-1 through 26 October and scored 20 or more in every one of those eight games. From November on they went 1-8, and their last nine games added up to 196 points scored and 258 allowed.

Pittsburgh did the opposite thing in close games. The Steelers went 7-3 in games decided by eight or fewer last season, and they have won both of their one-score games this season. The Colts were 3-7 in those games.

Put those together and the price makes sense. It sits a point or so on Pittsburgh’s side of last season’s full-year number, which is where the late-season Colts would push it, and it has not chased them any further than that.

What this season adds

Indianapolis is 1-2. They lost 41-23 at home to Baltimore, lost 33-30 in Kansas City, then beat Houston 19-17 at home. That is 72 points scored and 91 allowed.

Pittsburgh is 2-1. They beat Atlanta 20-13 at home, lost 20-3 in New England, then beat Cincinnati 30-27 at home. That is 53 scored and 60 allowed.

Run this season through the same working and it says Pittsburgh by about 4.5. Last season’s full year says 1.2. The market’s 2.5 sits between the two, and that is exactly where I would put it. When I agree with the number, there is no bet.

The last meeting

Pittsburgh won 27-20 at home on 2 November last season. It was the Colts’ first loss after the 7-1 start.

One game proves nothing on its own, and it is the only meeting in the data I have, which starts with the 2025 season.

The total

The same working gives about 48.9 points. The market has 47.5 at DraftKings and BetUS, and 46.5 at Caesars. That is 1.4 points from the main number, and short of the field goal again.

This season’s three games put it at about 46. The two sets of numbers bracket the market, the same as on the side. No bet on the total.

What would change the call

The price moving, mostly. If this goes to Pittsburgh -4.5 or longer, my number is more than a field goal away and I would look hard at the Colts. If the total drops to 45.5 or lower, the over comes into play.
