49ers at Seahawks prediction: Take Seahawks -3.5
Seattle was plus 191 last season and lays only 3.5 at home. I am taking the Seahawks and laying the points.
My number is plain arithmetic. I take each team’s points differential per game from last season, subtract one from the other, and set the result against the spread. Two points or more between my number and the market’s is a bet. Inside two points, I pass.
Pick: Seahawks -3.5 (-110)
Seattle went 14-3 last season, scoring 483 and allowing 292. That is plus 191, or plus 11.2 a game. San Francisco went 12-5, scoring 437 and allowing 371. Plus 66, or plus 3.9 a game.
My number is Seattle by 7.4. The market asks for 3.5. That is a gap of 3.9 points, clear of my bar.
Both of these were good teams. One of them was much better. The 49ers won 12 games, and five of those came by a score or less; Seattle allowed 17.2 points a game, the fewest of these two by more than four and a half.
The margins show it. Seattle won by more than 3.5 in 11 of its 17 games last season, and lost by more than 3.5 only once, 17-13 at home to San Francisco on 7 September 2025.
The doubt, and why I overrule it
That one loss is the first problem. The 49ers won in Seattle the last time they visited. The Seahawks won the return 13-3 in San Francisco on 3 January. Our game records begin in 2025, so the head-to-head is one each.
The second problem is this season. San Francisco is 3-0 and plus 48: 27-7 at the Rams, 35-13 at home to Miami, 36-30 at home to Arizona on Sunday. That is 32.7 points a game. Seattle is 2-1 and plus 25, with a 13-10 home win over New England, a 31-7 win at Arizona, and a 33-31 loss at Washington on Sunday.
Split last season by venue and the gap narrows too. Seattle at home was plus 10.4 a game. The 49ers on the road were plus 6.4, and they went 7-2 away from home. One against the other is Seattle by 4.0, half a point off the price.
So I have one road win, three good weeks and a venue split, all pointing at the 49ers. I will take the 17-game number over all three. Seattle outscored its opponents by 191 points across seventeen games, and that is still the best evidence either team has given us.
Where the price stands
This is an early line, read 13 days before kickoff. Three US sportsbooks, read on 28 September and last posted on 10 September, before either team had played a game this season. DraftKings and BetUS have Seattle -3.5 at -110. William Hill has -4 at -115.
That posting date matters. San Francisco has gone 3-0 since, and the number you find now may have come toward the 49ers. On my rule that makes it a better bet, not a worse one.
A bet on Seattle up to -5. At -5.5 or more, pass. On my rule San Francisco does not become the bet until it is getting 9.5.
The total
Forty-eight and a half at DraftKings and BetUS, 47.5 at William Hill. No bet, and only just.
I run the total the same way: each team’s scoring last season against the other’s points allowed, averaged, then added. Seattle scored 28.4 and allowed 17.2. San Francisco scored 25.7 and allowed 21.8. That lands on 46.6, just under two points below the market. My bar is two.
Seattle’s games went under 48.5 in 11 of 17 last season, San Francisco’s in 9. This season has been all over the place: the 49ers have totalled 34, 48 and 66, the Seahawks 23, 38 and 64. If the total reaches 49, the under becomes a bet on my rule.
The moneyline
DraftKings has Seattle -204 and San Francisco +170. With the margin taken out, that is about a 36 percent chance for the 49ers.
My number has Seattle better by more than a touchdown, and -204 is still not a price I pay. The points are the bet.
What would change it
A spread that has moved past Seattle -5 takes the bet away. A move toward -3 or -2.5 makes it better. The full version of this page re-reads every book the week of the game.
Seahawks -3.5. Lay the points.
