Sharks vs Maple Leafs Best Pick, Prediction and Odds

Bet the Sharks at +120. Our number makes this game a coin flip, 50.0% each; the price gives San Jose 43.7%.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are -142 and the San Jose Sharks +120 at DraftKings. With the margin out, that is 56.3% for Toronto and 43.7% for San Jose. The price treats the Leafs as a normal home favourite. Last season’s figures do not support one.

How 50.0% is reached

Our home win chance is the average of two 2025-26 rates: the home team’s win rate in its own arena and the visitor’s loss rate on the road. Overtime and shootout wins count as wins. Games at a neutral site are in neither half, and neither team had one.

The Maple Leafs went 18-15-8 at Scotiabank Arena: 18 wins, 15 regulation losses and 8 after regulation, a 43.9% home win rate over 41 games. The Sharks went 18-21-2 on the road and lost 23 of 41, a 56.1% road loss rate. The midpoint is exactly 50.0% for each side.

The margin is the extra a book builds into both prices so the pair comes to more than 100%. At -142 and +120 they come to 104.1%. Taken out, the Leafs are 56.3% and the Sharks 43.7%.

Every input is from 2025-26: 41 Toronto home games and 41 San Jose road games. This season is not in the figures. The Leafs are 3-4-2, 2-3-1 at home, and lost 4-1 at home to the Islanders on Saturday. The Sharks are 4-3-1 and lost 4-3 in a shootout in Detroit the same night, so both come in on one day off.

Toronto at home, San Jose on the road

At home the Leafs scored 3.29 a game and allowed 3.54, a deficit of 0.25. The Sharks on the road scored 3.05 and allowed 3.66, a deficit of 0.61.

The halves the method leaves out: Toronto on the road went 14-21-6, a 34.1% win rate, scoring 2.88 and allowing 3.76. San Jose at home went 21-14-6, 51.2%, scoring 3.07 and allowing 3.46.

Over the full season neither team was good, and Toronto was the worse of the two. The Maple Leafs finished 32-36-14 with 78 points and were outscored by 46. The Sharks finished 39-35-8 with 86 points and were outscored by 41. Neither made the playoffs.

San Jose won the close ones: 22-5-8 in one-goal games, and 12 of the 20 that went past regulation. Toronto went 14-4-14 in one-goal games and won 9 of its 23 past 60 minutes.

The Sharks won both meetings in 2025-26. Their 3-2 overtime win in Toronto on 11 December is in our number: one of the Leafs’ 41 home games and one of the Sharks’ 41 road games. San Jose’s 4-1 win at home on 2 April is in neither half.

Pick: Sharks +120

Bet the Sharks on the moneyline at +120. The gap is 6.3 points toward San Jose, against a threshold of 5.

The line read Maple Leafs -142 and Sharks +120 on 18 October 2026 at 21:14 UTC, DraftKings via ESPN, unchanged from where it opened.

What kills the bet

A shorter San Jose price. Against the Leafs at -142, the Sharks stop being a bet at shorter than +109. At +123 or longer they are a bet whatever Toronto is priced at.

For the Maple Leafs to become the bet, they would have to be +123 or longer, an underdog. They are -142.

The gap clears the bar by little more than a point, so a modest move in the price removes it. This is a bet that +120 overpays a coin flip, not a call that San Jose wins.

No starting goalie is on either injury list (ESPN, read 18 October 2026, 21:15 UTC). San Jose lists goalie Kyle Keyser on injured reserve, but he played no games for the Sharks last season or this one, so the method stands as it is. Yaroslav Askarov has played five of San Jose’s eight games, Alex Nedeljkovic three. Sergei Bobrovsky has played six of Toronto’s nine, Anthony Stolarz three. Toronto lists John Tavares, Dakota Joshua, Miles Wood, Chris Tanev and Max Domi on injured reserve; San Jose also lists Quentin Musty. Check the lineups before you bet.

The total and the puck line

The total is 6.5, over -120 and under +100. The Leafs’ games went over 6.5 in 46 of 82, the Sharks’ in 42 of 82. Toronto’s home games averaged 6.83 goals, San Jose’s road games 6.71.

That is 56.1% and 51.2%, an average of 53.7% for the over. With the margin removed the over is priced at 52.2% and the under at 47.8%, so our number leans to the over by less than 2 points. Pass on the total.

The puck line points the same way as the pick. Toronto is -1.5 at +170 and San Jose +1.5 at -205, which is 35.5% and 64.5% without the margin. The Leafs won by two goals or more in 18 of 82 games, and the Sharks lost by two or more in 30 of 82. Averaged, Toronto -1.5 lands 29.3% of the time against 35.5% priced, a gap of 6.3 points toward Sharks +1.5 at -205. Our method bets the moneyline only, so this is a lean. One bet on this game: the Sharks at +120.
