Louisville at NC State Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
Our number has NC State by 5.8. At +4, take NC State.
Louisville opened as a 7.5-point favorite at NC State at DraftKings and is 4 now. Our number has the home team winning by 5.8. The gap is 9.8 points, and the threshold for a bet here is 3.
How the number is built
The method is one clause: our number is half the difference between the home team’s average margin at home and the visitor’s average margin on the road, against FBS teams only, over 2025 and 2026 together.
NC State is 6-1 at home against FBS teams over that span, winning by 9.1 points a game across 7 games. Louisville is 3-1 on the road against FBS teams, losing by 2.5 a game across 4 games. The difference is 11.6 points. Half of it is 5.8.
Seven and four games is what there is. Louisville’s four road games are all from 2025. Its only game away from home this season, a 41-38 loss to Ole Miss on 6 September, was at a neutral site, so the method leaves it out.
Louisville on the road
Louisville’s road average rests on one result. It won 34-27 at Pittsburgh, 24-21 at Miami and 28-16 at Virginia Tech, then lost 38-6 at SMU on 22 November 2025.
Take the SMU game out and Louisville wins its other three road games by 7.3 a game. Our number falls to NC State by 0.9. Against NC State +4, that still leaves a gap of 4.9.
Take out NC State’s best home result as well, 42-19 over North Carolina, and our number becomes Louisville by 0.25. The gap to +4 is then 3.75. The bet survives both cuts.
NC State at home
NC State’s one home loss to an FBS team in the span was 23-21 to Virginia Tech on 27 September 2025. The six wins were 24-17 over East Carolina, 35-31 over Virginia, 48-36 over Georgia Tech, 21-11 over Florida State and 42-19 over North Carolina in 2025, then 41-31 over App State on 26 September.
Two of the seven were decided by 4 points or fewer. The other five were won by 7 or more.
The two teams did not meet in 2025.
2026 so far
Louisville is 2-2 and 1-1 in the ACC. It lost 41-38 to Ole Miss, beat Villanova 59-13, a team outside the FBS, beat SMU 41-31 and lost 30-27 to Wake Forest on 26 September, the last three at home. Against its three FBS opponents it has scored 35.3 a game and allowed 34.0.
NC State is 2-2 and 0-1 in the ACC. It lost 34-8 at Virginia, beat Richmond 73-0, a team outside the FBS, lost 35-31 at Vanderbilt and beat App State 41-31. Against FBS teams it has scored 26.7 a game and allowed 33.3. Neither team is in the AP poll for week 5.
Last season
Louisville went 9-4 in 2025 and won by 8.8 a game, 5-3 at home and 3-1 on the road. It closed the season with a 27-22 win over Toledo at a neutral site on 23 December.
NC State went 8-5 and won by 3.1 a game. It went 6-1 at home and 1-4 on the road, then beat Memphis 31-7 at a neutral site on 19 December.
The price
Louisville opened at -7.5 and is -4 now, read 30 September 2026 at 07:48 UTC at DraftKings via ESPN. That is a 3.5-point move toward NC State. NC State +4 is priced at -115 and Louisville -4 at -105.
The moneyline has Louisville at -192 and NC State at +160, from -310 and +250 at the open. With the margin removed, that prices Louisville to win 63.1% of the time. ESPN’s FPI has Louisville at 67.2%.
The market and FPI both make Louisville the likelier winner. Ours makes NC State the winner by 5.8, and the market has already moved 3.5 points in that direction.
Pick: NC State +4
NC State +4 at -115. The gap is 9.8 points against a 3-point threshold.
It rests on 11 games, split 7 and 4. The move since the open took the gap from 13.3 to 9.8, and it is still more than three times the threshold.
What changes it
A further move toward NC State. The bet holds down to NC State -2.5, where the gap is 3.3. At NC State -3 it is 2.8, and the call becomes a pass. Louisville would become the bet only at NC State -9 or more.
Availability is the other thing, and this page does not state it. Check the injury report before you bet.
The total
The total opened at 59.5 and is 58.5 now, over -115 and under -105.
Against FBS teams across 2025 and 2026, Louisville’s games went under 58.5 in 11 of 15, and NC State’s in 8 of 15. Louisville’s three FBS games this season produced 79, 72 and 57 points; NC State’s produced 42, 66 and 72.
Lean under 58.5, on Louisville’s longer record. Not a bet.
