My number is Golden State by 4.0 and the market has the Valkyries by 7.5. Take the Wings +7.5, playable to +5.

DraftKings has Golden State -7.5 at -105 and Dallas +7.5 at -115, read at 07:52 UTC on 1 October. The gap between my number and that price is 3.5 points. The best-of-three first-round series is tied 1-1: Golden State won Game 1 104-80 at home on 27 September, and Dallas won Game 2 108-100 in overtime in Dallas on 30 September. This game decides it. Every figure below comes from the 2026 regular season, so neither playoff game is in any of them.

The number

Both teams finished with a winning record, so my figure takes each side’s games against winning opponents only: Golden State’s home games and Dallas’s road games. Golden State is 7-4 in those eleven home games and wins them by 1.3 points on average. Dallas is 3-9 in its twelve road games against winning teams and loses them by 6.7. Half the difference between the two is Golden State by 4.0.

I play a side when my number and the price are at least a point apart. That makes Dallas a bet at +5 or longer and Golden State a bet at -3 or shorter. From Valkyries -3.5 to Valkyries -4.5 is a pass.

The spread opened at Golden State -6.5 and has moved a point toward the Valkyries, to -7.5. The moneyline has moved the same way, from Golden State -245 to -298, with Dallas out from +200 to +240.

ESPN’s matchup predictor gives Golden State a 72.3% chance to win, against 71.8% in the DraftKings moneyline. The two agree. My number is the one that disagrees, and it disagrees on the margin.

The samples

Both regular-season meetings in San Francisco sit in both samples: Golden State won 91-80 on 17 June and 78-70 on 17 August. Take them out of both and my number drops to Golden State by 2.8. At that figure the Wings are a bet at +4 or longer, so the pick holds either way.

Golden State’s home sample is narrow. Every one of the eleven games was decided by 11 points or fewer, from 91-80 over Dallas to a 77-66 loss to Minnesota on 19 August, and three were decided by five or fewer. The Valkyries did not win any of them by more than 11, and the line asks them to win by 8.

Dallas’s road sample is the weak side of this game, and it is already in my number. The Wings are 16-6 at home and 11-11 on the road, and against winning teams away from Dallas they won three times: by 3 at Indiana on 9 May, by 15 at New York on 24 May and by 11 at New York on 7 July. The worst was a 100-76 loss at Minnesota on 9 June. Across all twelve, Dallas lost by 6.7 a game on average, which is still inside 7.5.

The season series

Golden State won all three regular-season meetings: 91-80 and 78-70 at home, and 94-76 in Dallas on 7 August.

The playoffs have split. Golden State won Game 1 by 24 in San Francisco; Dallas won Game 2 by 8 in Dallas, after the teams were level at 93 at the end of regulation. Five games against one opponent are still too few to price on their own, and two of the three regular-season wins are already in my number.

Form

Golden State finished the regular season 32-12, the best record of the four teams in these two series, and 7-3 over its last ten, winning by 8.3 a game. Its last regular-season game was a 76-75 win at Los Angeles on 24 September. The three losses in that run were 77-66 at home to Minnesota on 19 August, 73-70 at Chicago on 21 August and 90-82 at Portland on 22 September.

Dallas went 7-3 over its last ten, winning by 8.9 a game, and finished 27-17 with a 103-91 win at Seattle on 23 September. Six of those ten were at home.

Both teams played Game 2 on Wednesday, so neither carries a rest edge into Friday.

The total

DraftKings has the total at 157.5, up from 156.5 at the open, with the over at -115 and the under at -105. My method prices the side only, so the total is not a bet here. Dallas’s games have a median total of 173 this season and Golden State’s have 162. Dallas went over 157.5 in 37 of its 44 games; Golden State did in 23 of 44.

The three regular-season meetings landed at 171, 170 and 148, Game 1 at 184 and Game 2 at 208 after overtime, 186 in regulation. That is a count, not a model, and without a number of my own there is no bet on the total.
