World Domination

The best player in the world right now is Djokovic. He has won the Australian Open, French Open and WImbledon already this year. It’s easy to see why he is the -120 favorite to win his first gold medal. He does own a bronze medal, which he won in 2008 in Beijing.

The path to the gold got a little easier for Djokovic when Nadal announced that he wouldn’t be participating. Djokovic is ranked No. 1 in the world and is a big favorite for a reason.

The Contenders

With Nadal, Federer and world No. 5 Dominic Thiem out, the biggest contenders to Djokovic’s gold medal are No. 2 Daniil Medvedev and No. 4 Stefanos Tsitsipas. Djokovic has beaten Medvedev in five of eight matches and Tsitsipas has only won twice in eight tries against the world’s No. 1 player.

Medvedev is given the best chance of upsetting Djokovic. He is listed at +300 while Tsitsipas is next on the board at +400. The 6-foot-6-inch Alexander Zverev is next on the board at +600 and the last player with better than +1000 odds to win an Olympic Gold.

The Longshot

Bettors can search the board all they want looking for that big upset, but names like Asian Karatsev (+2000), Diego Schwartzman (+2900), and David Goffin (+4000) are not instilling any confidence.

The Pick

Don’t overthink this one. Djokovic is the world’s best and he just keeps on winning. The Olympic field is missing some of the world’s top players. Take Djokovic now at -120 before the odds shorten even more leading up to the start of the Tokyo Olympics.
