Mike Trout Hits His 300th Career Home Run

Mike Trout’s MLB career has been the stuff of legends as one of the best to ever play the game. He added to that legend this past Saturday with the 300th home run in that career. At just 29 years old, he set the Los Angeles Angels’ franchise record for home runs.

He went 3-for-3 in that game with a pair of doubles to knock-in two runs while scoring four. The Angels hammered out a 10-9 win against the rival Houston Astros.

Mike Trout Home Run Record

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Trout is the fasted MLB player in history to reach 300 home runs and 200 stolen bases. Both of these milestones were reached in 1,235 games. Willie Mays accomplished the same feat in 1,295 games just to put these two numbers in their proper perspective.

Trout has hit 15 home runs this season which is tied with San Diego’s Fernando Tatis Jr. for the most in the Majors, making him a great bet in the home run props markets. He ranked third overall in RBI with 38.

The Angels are 8½ games off the pace set by the Oakland Athletics in the AL West Division title race. At 17-25 through their first 42 games, it is safe to say they are riding out the string in this shortened 60-game season.

None the less, Mike Trout continues to prove his worth as the best player in the game today. With 300 home runs under his belt, he is the 16th MLB player to reach that mark prior to his 30th birthday. He is also the 151st player to join the 300 Home Run Club.

Tim Salmon held the Angels’ previous record for home runs with 299. He played his entire 14-year career with the Los Angeles Angels. He was also part of the team’s only World Series Championship run back in 2002. He remains connected with the Angels as part of the team’s broadcast crew.

Salmon told Fox Sports West, “I knew the day he signed the extension that he was going to pass it. All records are meant to be broken.”

In March of 2019, Trout signed a 12-year contract extension with Los Angeles worth an estimated $427 million. The two players did exchange greetings during Saturday’s game. Trout mentioned “That was special. I knew he was up there watching.”

In the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against Houston, the slugger went 1-for-2 with a double. He also scored two runs in the 7-6 win. The Astros have now lost their last four games to fall 3½ games in back of Oakland in the division standings. Oakland are a 2020 World Series contender.

MLB 300 Home Run Club

Turning to BaseballRefernce.com, the youngest player to hit 300 home runs was Alex Rodriguez. He was 27 when he accomplished that feat. Andruw Jones holds the record in the NL with 300 home runs before turning 29.

Babe Ruth was the initial member of the 300 Home Run Club back in 1935. This has been the long-standing benchmark for sluggers over the years. However, the category has been expanded to the 400 home run level as a Hall of Fame benchmark.

There is also a different level for 500, 600 and 700 home runs as the best of the best. Given the pace Trout is on, he will most likely land at the upper limits of this elite group when his playing days finally come to an end.
