NCAA Basketball: 2021 Pac-12 Tournament Odds and Picks

Championship Week is always filled with great betting action as teams battle in out in a series of conference tournaments for a spot in the 68-team field for the annual NCAA Tournament.

The competition for the top spot in the upcoming Pac-12 Tournament should be heated since only a game and a half separated the top four teams in the Pac-12 regular season standings. Play gets underway on Wednesday, March 10 with the opening round of games at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Oregon and Colorado Favored to Win Pac-12 Tourney

The Oregon Ducks earned the top seed for this tournament by virtue of their straight-up 14-4 record in Pac-12 play. Along with the Colorado Buffaloes at 14-6 SU in conference play, these two teams have been opened as +200 co-favorites to win.

The Ducks have turned up the heat since a win against Washington at home on Feb. 6 with a SU 10-1 record over their final 11 games. The lone loss was on Feb. 22 against USC. That game was never close in a 14-point defeat as 3.5-point road underdogs.

Oregon was able to average 74.1 points per game this season while boasting a points-allowed average of 66.9 points on defense.

Colorado won seven of its last nine games but one of those losses came against Oregon on the road. It won the first meeting this season at home on Jan.7. The No. 23 Buffaloes are one of two nationally ranked teams in this conference heading into this week’s tournament.

The Buffaloes matchup rather well against the Ducks with a scoring average of 73.7 PPG backed up by a defense that was able to hold opposing teams to 63 points per contest.

Oregon and Colorado should make their way through the bracket to Friday’s semifinals. My lean is toward Oregon as the chalk pick because of the easier path to Saturday’s title game.

Third on the list at +240 odds is the No. 24 USC Trojans. They were second in the conference standings at 15-5 SU while going 21-6 to post the most victories of any Pac-12 team. Current playing form includes a 3-3 record over the last three games with bad losses to Arizona at home and to Utah on the road as favorites. USC also lost to Colorado by 18 points on Feb. 25 as a 3.5-point road underdog.

The Trojans are probably the best all-around team in the Pac-12 this season. However, the way they closed things out does raise a red flag for betting them to win this tournament. The betting odds go up to +550 for the UCLA Bruins before rising all the way to +1600 for Stanford as the fifth team on the board.

UCLA has been competitive for most of the season but closing the season out on a three-game losing streak does not instill all that much confidence in a deep run to a tournament title this week. The losses came against Colorado and Oregon on the road and to USC at home.

Stanford gets an honorable mention as the best of the rest in this lineup. The Cardinal lost their last four games of the season, including setbacks against Washington State and Oregon State as favorites.
