Brewers vs Rays Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
No bet on Game 5. The Rays are 3.2 points better than their price says, and it takes 5 to bet.
The odds and what they say
DraftKings had the Tampa Bay Rays at +129 and the Milwaukee Brewers at -155 at 13:10 UTC on 28 October, for Wednesday’s game at 8:00 PM ET. A book builds in extra so the two prices add to more than 100%. That margin is 4.5 points here. With it removed, the market gives Milwaukee 58.2% and Tampa Bay 41.8%.
Our number is Milwaukee 55.0%, Tampa Bay 45.0%. The gap is 3.2 points toward the Rays. The rule is fixed before the pick: a side is a bet when ours is at least 5 points above the market’s. At 3.2, this one is not.
How 45.0% is reached
There are three steps, and they are the same on every baseball page. First we rate each club on the runs it scored and allowed in the 2026 regular season. That is a Pythagorean expectation: runs scored to the power 1.83, set against runs allowed to the same power. Tampa Bay comes out at 55.7% and Milwaukee at 63.3%.
Next, log5 puts the two rates against each other on a neutral field. That gives the Rays 42.1%. Last, we add the edge home teams earned this year. They went 1284-1145 in the 2026 regular season, a 52.9% rate. With that home edge, the Rays reach 45.0%.
The number reads 162 regular-season games per club and nothing after them. The four World Series games have not moved it.
The series so far
Milwaukee leads 3-1. The Brewers won Game 1, 3-2, on Friday 23 October and Game 2, 5-4, on Saturday 24 October, both at home. At Tropicana Field they won Game 3, 10-1, on Monday. The Rays took Game 4, 4-3, on Tuesday. A Brewers win on Wednesday ends the series.
Jacob Misiorowski is listed to start for Milwaukee on ESPN’s game page. He throws right-handed. His line there is 16-5 with a 1.80 ERA and a 0.80 WHIP over 30 starts and 174.2 innings, with 252 strikeouts and 44 walks. Tampa Bay had not announced a starter. Neither name is in our number: the method rates clubs on a full season of runs, whoever pitched.
Tampa Bay at home, Milwaukee on the road
The Rays went 55-26 at home, scoring 4.6 runs a game and allowing 3.98. The Brewers went 48-33 on the road, scoring 4.75 and allowing 4.16. Those are the two halves that apply to Wednesday’s venue.
The other halves are Tampa Bay’s 43-38 road record (4.48 scored, 4.05 allowed) and Milwaukee’s 55-26 at home (5.52 scored, 3.47 allowed). The method uses neither split on its own. It uses each club’s full season, because a split cuts every sample in half.
The season around it
Milwaukee went 103-59, a 63.6% rate. It scored 832 runs and allowed 618, a difference of 214. Tampa Bay went 98-64, a 60.5% rate, with 736 scored and 650 allowed, a difference of 86. The Rays’ record runs ahead of their runs: 60.5% won against 55.7% expected. The Brewers’ two figures sit close together, 63.6% and 63.3%.
The clubs met three times in the regular season, all at Milwaukee’s park. The Rays won 3-2 on 30 March. The Brewers won 6-2 on 31 March and 8-2 on 1 April. Three games prove nothing on their own, and they are already inside each club’s season totals.
Pick: No bet
There is no bet at Rays +129 or Brewers -155 (DraftKings, read 28 October 2026, 13:10 UTC). The lean is to Tampa Bay, by 3.2 points: our 45.0% against the market’s 41.8%. The threshold is 5.
DraftKings opened the game at Rays +116 and Brewers -140. That price gave the Rays 44.2%. Since the open, the market has moved toward Milwaukee, which now gets 2.4 points more than it did at the open.
What kills the bet
The price is the first thing. At today’s margin, the Rays become a bet at +140 or longer and the Brewers at -109 or shorter. At any price between those two, pass. Tampa Bay drifted from +116 to +129 since the open, so compare the price you see with +140 before taking the Rays.
The injury list on ESPN’s game page has Junior Caminero (3B) as day-to-day with a leg injury. Shane McClanahan (SP) is out with a forearm injury. Gavin Lux, Jacob Melton and Edwin Uceta are on the 60-day injured list for Tampa Bay. For Milwaukee, Quinn Priester, Angel Zerpa and Brian Fitzpatrick are on the 60-day list. None of these changes our number. The Rays’ starter is still unnamed, and the market will price him when he is. Check the lineups before you bet.
The total and the run line
The total is 6.5, with the over at -120 and the under at +100. Pass. The Rays went over 6.5 in 104 of 162 regular-season games (64.2%), and the Brewers in 107 of 162 (66.0%). That makes our over 65.1% against the market’s 52.2%, a gap of 12.9 points. Those counts cover a whole rotation. A postseason total is set for the two starters named, and a season count cannot see them. With Misiorowski listed at a 1.80 ERA, that difference is the whole reason. We pass on every postseason total.
The run line is 1.5. This page stakes the moneyline, and with no moneyline bet there is no run line bet either.
