Heat vs Hornets Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
Bet the Hornets to win at home. Our number gives Charlotte 54.9%; the price gives them 41.7%.
The Miami Heat are -155 and the Charlotte Hornets +130 at DraftKings. With the margin out, that is 58.3% for Miami and 41.7% for Charlotte. Last season’s home and road records put Charlotte 13.2 points higher than the market does, and our threshold for a bet is 5.
How 54.9% is reached
Our home win chance is the average of two 2025-26 regular-season rates: the home team’s win rate in its own arena and the visitor’s loss rate on the road. Games at a neutral site are in neither half. Neither team played one.
The Hornets went 21-20 at Spectrum Center, a 51.2% home win rate over 41 games. The Heat went 17-24 on the road, a 58.5% road loss rate over 41 games. The midpoint is 54.9% for Charlotte and 45.1% for Miami.
The margin is the extra a book builds into both prices so the pair adds to more than 100%. At -155 and +130 the two come to 104.3%. Taken out, the Heat are 58.3% and the Hornets 41.7%.
The 2026-27 season is two games old for both teams. Charlotte is 1-1, 0-1 at home, and lost 128-81 to the Atlanta Hawks on Friday 23 October. Miami is 0-2 and lost 128-111 to the Detroit Pistons the same night. Our number reads 2025-26 only, so none of these games are in it, and it does not see roster changes over the summer. That is the main risk in this bet.
Charlotte at home, Miami on the road
At home the Hornets scored 115.0 points a game and allowed 111.1, a margin of 3.9. On the road the Heat scored 118.3 and allowed 118.8, a margin of -0.5. Miami was outscored away from home.
The halves the method leaves out point the other way. Miami at home went 26-15, scoring 123.5 and allowing 118.3. Charlotte on the road went 23-18, scoring 117.0 and allowing 111.2. Those two records are why the market prices Miami. Our method does not use them.
Over the full season the Hornets finished 44-38, ninth in the East, scoring 116.0 and allowing 111.2, a difference of 4.8 a game. The Heat finished 43-39, tenth, scoring 120.9 and allowing 118.5, a difference of 2.4. Neither team made the playoffs.
Charlotte won 32 games by 10 or more and lost 19 that way. Miami won 29 by 10 or more and lost 23. In games decided by 5 points or fewer, the Hornets went 5-11, with 3 going to overtime. The Heat went 8-8 in those games, with 1 overtime.
The Heat won three of the four meetings. In Miami, the Heat won 144-117 on 28 October 2025 and 126-108 on 7 November 2025; those are in neither half of our number. In Charlotte, the Heat won 128-120 on 6 March 2026 and the Hornets won 136-106 on 17 March 2026. Those two are in our number: two of the Hornets’ 41 home games and two of the Heat’s 41 road games.
Pick: Hornets +130
Bet the Hornets on the moneyline at +130. The gap is 13.2 points toward Charlotte, against a threshold of 5.
The line read Hornets +130 and Heat -155 on 24 October 2026 at 13:02 UTC, DraftKings via ESPN. It opened at Hornets +124 and Heat -148. Since opening, the market gives Miami 1.1 points more, so the price has moved toward the Heat.
What kills the bet
A much shorter Charlotte price. At +101 or longer the Hornets are a bet whatever Miami is priced at. With the Heat at -155, the Hornets stay a bet down to -154.
For the Heat to become the bet, Miami would have to be +150 or longer whatever Charlotte is priced at. Against the Hornets at +130, Miami would need +243 or longer. The Heat are -155.
ESPN’s injury list for the game, read 24 October 2026 at 13:02 UTC, has Kylan Boswell (knee) out for Charlotte, with Grant Williams (hamstring), Coby White (calf) and Kon Knueppel (hamstring) day-to-day. It lists no one for Miami. Our method has no key-player rule for the NBA, so the list does not change the number. Check the lineups before you bet.
Our number still gives Charlotte a 45.1% chance of losing. The case is that +130 pays more than that risk warrants, on last season’s evidence.
The total and the spread
The total is 229.5, over -110 and under -110. The Hornets’ home games went over 229.5 in 19 of 41, a 46.3% rate, and averaged 226.1 points. The Heat’s road games went over in 28 of 41, a 68.3% rate, and averaged 237.1. Across all 82 games, Charlotte’s went over 37 times and Miami’s 56.
The two venue rates average 57.3% for the over. With the margin removed the market prices it at 50.0%, so our count leans over by 7.3 points. Our method stakes the moneyline only, so this is a lean, not a bet.
The spread is Hornets +3.5 at -110 and Heat -3.5 at -110, unchanged from the open. The Hornets covered +3.5 in 24 of 41 home games; the Heat covered -3.5 in 15 of 41 road games. That gives Charlotte +3.5 a 61.0% cover rate against 50.0% priced, a gap of 11.0 points on the same side as the pick. It is a lean too. One bet on this game: the Hornets at +130.
