Hornets vs Pistons Best Pick, Prediction and Odds

Our Hornets vs Pistons prediction: bet Charlotte at +210. Our number gives the Hornets on the road 39.3%; the price gives them 30.9%.

The Charlotte Hornets are +210 and the Detroit Pistons -258 at DraftKings for the Charlotte Hornets at Detroit Pistons on Wednesday 28 October. With the margin out, that is 30.9% for Charlotte and 69.1% for Detroit. Last season’s home and road records put Charlotte 8.4 points higher than the market does. We bet at 5.

How 39.3% is reached

Our home win chance is the average of two 2025-26 regular-season rates: the home team’s win rate in its own arena and the visitor’s loss rate on the road. Games at a neutral site are in neither half. Detroit played one, and it is left out. Charlotte played none.

The Pistons went 31-9 at Little Caesars Arena, a 77.5% home win rate over 40 games. The Hornets went 23-18 on the road and lost 18 of 41, a 43.9% road loss rate. The midpoint is 60.7% for Detroit and 39.3% for Charlotte.

The margin is the extra a book builds into both prices so the pair adds to more than 100%. At +210 and -258 they add to 104.3%. Taken out, the Hornets are 30.9% and the Pistons 69.1%.

This season so far

Both teams are 3-1 in 2026-27. Detroit is 1-0 at home and lost 111-97 at the New York Knicks on Tuesday 27 October. Charlotte is 1-0 on the road and beat the Washington Wizards 110-103 on Monday 26 October.

None of those eight games is in our number, which reads 2025-26 only. Four games a team is too few to measure anything, and a summer of roster changes is invisible to last season’s records. That is the main risk in this bet.

Detroit at home, Charlotte on the road

At home the Pistons scored 118.6 points a game and allowed 108.2, a margin of 10.4. On the road the Hornets scored 117.0 and allowed 111.2, a margin of 5.8.

The halves the method leaves out: Detroit on the road went 28-13, scoring 116.8 and allowing 111.0. Charlotte at home went 21-20, scoring 115.0 and allowing 111.1. The Hornets were the better team away from home last season, 23-18 against 21-20, and the road half is the one our number uses.

The season around it

The Pistons finished 60-22, the first seed in the Eastern Conference, scoring 117.8 and allowing 109.6 a game, a difference of 8.2. They won 34 games by 10 or more and lost 8 by that much. In the playoffs they beat the Orlando Magic 4-3 and lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-3.

The Hornets finished 44-38, ninth in the East, and missed the playoffs. They scored 116.0 and allowed 111.2, a difference of 4.8 a game. In games decided by 5 points or fewer they went 5-11; Detroit went 14-10. Charlotte won 32 games by 10 or more and lost 19 by that much.

Detroit won all three meetings. In Detroit, the Pistons won 112-86 on Saturday 20 December 2025; that game is in our number, one of the Pistons’ 40 home games and one of the Hornets’ 41 road games. In Charlotte, the Pistons won 110-104 on Monday 9 February 2026 and 118-100 on Friday 10 April 2026; those two are in neither half.

Pick: Hornets +210

Bet the Hornets on the moneyline at +210. The gap is 8.4 points toward Charlotte, against a threshold of 5.

The line read Hornets +210 and Pistons -258 on 28 October 2026 at 13:01 UTC, DraftKings via ESPN. It opened at Hornets +245 and Pistons -305. Since opening the market has moved toward Charlotte: it gives the Hornets 30.9% now against 27.8% at the open, 3.1 points more.

What kills the bet

A shorter Charlotte price. At +192 or longer the Hornets are a bet whatever Detroit is priced at. With the Pistons at -258, they stay a bet down to +166. The open-to-now move has already taken the price from +245 to +210; another move of that size would put it under +192.

For the Pistons to become the bet, they would have to be priced at -125 or longer, whatever Charlotte’s price. They are -258.

ESPN’s injury list for the game, read 28 October 2026 at 13:01 UTC, has Jalen Duren (hamstring) out and Isaiah Joe (hip) day-to-day for Detroit. For Charlotte it has Coby White (calf), Kon Knueppel (hamstring), Grant Williams (hamstring) and Kylan Boswell (knee) out. Our method is built on last season’s records, so the list does not change the number. Check the lineups before you bet.

Our number still gives Charlotte a 60.7% chance of losing. The case is that +210 pays more than that risk warrants, on last season’s evidence.

The total and the spread

The total is 215.5, over -105 and under -115. The Pistons’ home games went over 215.5 in 27 of 40, a 67.5% rate, and averaged 226.8 points. The Hornets’ road games went over in 29 of 41, a 70.7% rate, and averaged 228.2. Across all 82 games each team went over this line 60 times.

Averaged, the two venue rates give the over 69.1%. With the margin out the market prices the over at 48.9% and the under at 51.1%, so our count leans to the over by 20.2 points. Our method stakes the moneyline only. This is a lean, not a bet.

The spread is Pistons -6.5 at -105 and Hornets +6.5 at -115; it opened Pistons -7.5. Detroit beat this line in 21 of 40 home games. Charlotte beat it in 28 of 41 road games. Averaged, Pistons -6.5 lands 42.1% of the time against 48.9% priced, a gap of 6.8 points toward Hornets +6.5. That is a lean on the same side, not a second bet. One bet on this game: the Hornets at +210.
