Stony Brook Seawolves

In the second half of January the Seawolves won five games in a row as underdogs, every one of them covered. Stony Brook finished 2025-26 6.09 moneyline units up; only 34 Division I teams made more.

Five upsets in a row

The run began at home against Hofstra, 76-71 at +245, and Charleston, 112-106 at +160. It continued on the road at Northeastern 95-80 at +154, at Campbell 81-69 at +185 and at Elon 72-68 at +180. January closed 6-2, 6 covers in 8 and 7.7 units, more than the whole season’s profit.

November had already made 5.69, most of it one game: 71-68 at Loyola Marymount at +500.

At home

The Seawolves went 12-4 at home, covered 10 of 14 there and returned 5.35 moneyline units from 14 priced home games. Twenty teams nationally had a better home cover rate; eleven made more on home moneylines. Away they were 4-9, yet the road moneyline still finished 1.19 units up, because all four road wins came as underdogs: Loyola Marymount, Northeastern, Campbell and Elon.

Against the spread

Eighteen covers in 30, 60%, a rate 38 teams beat. As underdogs Stony Brook covered 12 of 21 and won 8 of them outright, for 4.59 units. In their nine games as favorites they went 7-2 and covered 6.

The bad months

December went 2-5 and cost 2.91 units, beginning with a 71-55 home loss to UAlbany at -625. The season ended on four straight defeats: at Monmouth, at Hofstra, at home to Towson and 96-89 to Campbell in the CAA tournament.

Opponents and the total

Monmouth and Towson both won twice and covered twice; those four games cost 4 units. Northeastern lost twice and Stony Brook covered both. The total split 15 and 15. The highest number they were set, 159.5 at William & Mary, stayed under in a 76-57 defeat.
