How the number is built
The method is one clause: our number is half the difference between the home team’s average margin at home and the visitor’s average margin on the road, against FBS teams only, over 2025 and 2026 together.

Eight and five games is what there is. Virginia’s five road games are all from 2025. Its 38-27 loss to West Virginia on 19 September was at a neutral site, so the method leaves it out, and its other three games this season were at home.
Florida State at home
Florida State’s 16.2 leans on two games: 66-10 over Kent State and 42-7 over Wake Forest, both in 2025. Take them out and the other six average a 6.5-point win.
Those six are 31-17 over Alabama and 34-14 over Virginia Tech in 2025, 34-17 over New Mexico State this season, and three losses by 6 or fewer: 28-22 to Miami, 34-31 to Pittsburgh and 27-24 to SMU on 7 September. Florida State is 2-2 and 0-1 in the ACC. It beat New Mexico State 34-17, lost 27-24 to SMU at home and 50-36 at Alabama, then beat Central Arkansas 34-7, a team outside the FBS. Against FBS teams it has scored 31.3 a game and allowed 31.3.
Last season
Virginia went 11-3 in 2025, won by 11.2 a game, and went 4-1 on the road. It lost 27-20 to Duke at a neutral site on 6 December, then ended the season with a 13-7 win over Missouri on 27 December, also at a neutral site.
