Virginia football won three of its four 2025 games as the underdog, returning 4.95 units on the moneyline; only ten FBS teams made more backing their side at plus money. The Cavaliers finished the regular season 10-3, and 8-5 against the spread.

Plus money that kept landing

Virginia was an underdog four times and won three: 46-38 over Florida State at +225, 30-27 at Louisville at +200, and 34-17 at Duke at +170. The one loss was 35-31 at NC State. Those four games were worth 4.95 units. Every one of the 13 was priced, and a unit on the Cavaliers each week finished 4.33 up; only 16 FBS teams made more.

As a favorite the picture was flatter: seven wins in nine, five covers, 0.62 units down. Two October wins came by two points and by one against big lines: 22-20 over Washington State at -16.5 and 17-16 at North Carolina at -12.5.

Duke, twice

Duke is the only opponent Virginia met twice. On 15 November, as 5.5-point underdogs on the road, the Cavaliers won by 17. In December, on a neutral field and favored by 3.5, they lost 27-20. The bowl that followed was a 13-7 win over Missouri in the Gator Bowl.

The total

The first five games went over; the last eight all went under. That 8-5 split to the under was bettered by 20 FBS teams and matched by three. The lowest-scoring of the eight unders was the 16-9 home loss to Wake Forest against a total of 48.5.
