Pick the Texans -3.5 – Texans at Titans prediction, odds and best picks
Last season’s rates make Houston about a touchdown better than Tennessee in Nashville. The pick is Houston -3.5.
The market has Houston by three and a half. DraftKings and BetUS both deal Houston -3.5 at -110, and Caesars has Houston -3 at -120. Those three books are the whole market on file, and their prices were posted on 13 September and had not been updated when I read them on 28 September at 15:10 UTC. This is an early line, and it will be read again the week of the game.
The number the argument rests on
Houston scored 404 points in 2025 and allowed 295, a differential of +109 over 17 games. Tennessee scored 284 and allowed 478, a differential of -194. Per game, that is +6.4 for Houston and -11.4 for Tennessee.
My method in one clause: half the gap between the two per-game differentials, plus two and a half points for home field. The gap is 17.8 in Houston’s favour. Half of it is 8.9. Take off two and a half for Tennessee’s home field and this game prices at Houston by 6.4.
The market has 3.5. That is an edge of 2.9 points, and my threshold is two. Below two I pass, because an estimate built on season rates carries more error than that.
Pick: Texans -3.5
At -3.5, a Houston win by exactly three loses. Caesars sells the half point back: Houston -3 at -120 turns that result into a push. On a 6.4-point estimate the three matters less than it would on a closer number, so I take -3.5 at -110 and keep the cheaper price.
The rates say the same thing in plainer form. Houston won by four or more in 10 of its 17 games last season. Tennessee lost by four or more in 13 of its 17.
Venue does not rescue Tennessee. The Titans went 1-8 at home in 2025, scoring 18.2 a game and allowing 27.3. Houston went 5-3 on the road and allowed 15.4 a game away from home.
What this season says, and what it cannot
Both teams are 0-3. Houston lost 36-31 to Buffalo and 20-6 to Cincinnati at home, then 19-17 at Indianapolis: 54 scored, 75 allowed. Tennessee lost 23-10 to the Jets and 24-20 to Philadelphia at home, then 12-7 at the Giants: 37 scored, 59 allowed.
Put those three games through the same method and the two differentials are almost level, -7.0 for Houston and -7.3 for Tennessee. The home field then makes Tennessee a 2.3-point favourite. That is the case against this pick, and it belongs on the page.
I do not bet it. Three games is too few to overturn a 17-game rate by 8.7 points, and two of Houston’s three losses were by two and five. A sample that small proves nothing either way.
The total
The total is 43.5 at DraftKings and BetUS, and 42.5 at Caesars.
My method for the total adds each team’s expected points, taken as the average of what it scored a game and what the other side allowed a game in 2025. Houston comes out at 25.95, the average of 23.8 and 28.1. Tennessee comes out at 17.05, the average of 16.7 and 17.4. That is 43.0, half a point from the main number. No bet on the total.
The two meetings
These teams met twice in 2025. Houston won 26-0 at home on 28 September and 16-13 in Tennessee on 16 November. That is one blowout and one three-point game.
Two games is not a rate, and the price above puts no weight on them. Nucleus holds nothing before the 2025 season, so this is the whole head-to-head record I have.
What would change the call
The edge holds at -3.5 and at -4. At Houston -4.5 it falls to 1.9, below the threshold, and this becomes a pass.
This page prices no injury news, and a missing starting quarterback on either side would move the number more than anything above. Read the injury report and the current price before you bet; the prices here are fifteen days old.
