Islanders vs Senators Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
Bet the Islanders at +130. The price gives New York 41.7%, our number gives it 47.6%, and that 5.9-point gap clears our 5-point bar.
The Ottawa Senators are -155 and the New York Islanders +130 at DraftKings. Take out the margin and the market has Ottawa at 58.3% and the Islanders at 41.7%. Our number has the Senators at 52.4%. Both say Ottawa is the more likely winner. They part on how likely, and the part is big enough to bet.
Where 52.4% comes from
The whole method fits in a sentence: average the home team’s 2025-26 home win rate with the visitor’s 2025-26 road loss rate, count an overtime or shootout win as a win, and leave neutral-site games out. Neither team played one last season.
The Senators went 23-12-6 in Ottawa: 23 wins, 12 regulation losses, 6 losses after regulation. That is a 56.1% home win rate over 41 games. The Islanders went 21-17-3 on the road and lost 20 of 41, a 48.8% road loss rate. Halfway between the two is 52.4% for Ottawa, 47.6% for New York.
Both halves sit close to even, and that is the point. Ottawa won a little more than half at home. The Islanders lost a little less than half on the road. Records like these cannot put Ottawa anywhere near 58%.
The margin is the extra a book builds into both prices, so that they add to more than 100%. At -155 and +130 they add to 104.3%. Taken out, the Senators are 58.3% and the Islanders 41.7%.
Treat a 5.9-point gap with some suspicion before you trust it. Our number is 41 home games for Ottawa and 41 road games for New York, all from 2025-26. It knows nothing of the summer and nothing of this season. Both teams opened on Tuesday: the Islanders beat the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 at home, and the Senators lost 7-2 at home to the St. Louis Blues. Those two games are not in the figures.
Ottawa at home, New York on the road
The building suited Ottawa’s defence. At home the Senators scored 3.39 goals a game and allowed 2.63, a surplus of 0.76. The Islanders on the road scored 2.76 and allowed 2.90, so they were outscored by 0.14 a game.
On the road Ottawa scored the same 3.39 a game and allowed 3.37, and went 21-15-5, a 51.2% win rate over 41 games. Home ice moved the goals against far more than the goals for. The Islanders were 22-17-2 at home, 53.7%, scoring 2.93 and allowing 2.98. The method uses only Ottawa’s home half and New York’s road half.
Over the season the Senators were the stronger side. They finished 44-27-11 with 99 points and outscored opponents by 32. The Islanders finished 43-34-5 with 91 points and were outscored by 8. Ottawa reached the playoffs and was swept 4-0 by Carolina. The Islanders did not get there.
How New York got to 43 wins while giving up more goals than it scored is the case against this bet. The Islanders went 27-11-5 in one-goal games, and won 14 of the 19 that went past 60 minutes. Only 16 of their 43 wins came by two goals or more. Ottawa won 28 of its 44 by two or more, went 16-10-11 in one-goal games, and won 6 of 17 past regulation. Our number counts every one of those close wins at full value.
Ottawa won two of the three meetings in 2025-26. The Islanders won 5-4 at the Canadian Tire Centre on 18 October. The Senators won 3-2 there on 19 March and 3-0 at UBS Arena on 11 April. Only the two in Ottawa are in our number, each one game among 41 on either side. The one at UBS Arena falls in neither half the method reads.
Pick: Islanders +130
Bet the Islanders on the moneyline at +130. The gap is 5.9 points toward New York, and the threshold is 5.
The line opened at Senators -155 and Islanders +130 and had not moved when it was read on 14 October 2026 at 15:56 UTC, DraftKings via ESPN.
What kills the bet
A shorter Islanders price, and it does not take much. At +135 or longer New York is a bet whatever Ottawa is priced at, and +130 is already shorter than that. Below +135 the answer depends on the Senators’ price as well. Against -155, the Islanders at +125 would still clear, by 5.4 points. Any further and the sum has to be done again.
For Ottawa to become the bet, the Senators would have to drift to +111 or longer. They are -155.
The other unknown is who plays. This page states nothing about either lineup on 15 October. Check both before you take the +130.
The total and the puck line
The total is 5.5, over -115 and under -105. The Senators’ games went over 5.5 in 45 of 82 and the Islanders’ in 41 of 82. Ottawa’s home games averaged 6.02 goals and New York’s road games 5.66.
Those over rates are 54.9% and 50.0%, and the average is 52.4%. The over at -115 is priced at 51.1% once the margin is out. The gap is 1.3 points toward the over, a long way short of 5. Pass on the total.
On the puck line the Senators are -1.5 at +170 and the Islanders +1.5 at -205, which is 35.5% and 64.5% without the margin. Ottawa won by two goals or more in 28 of 82 games. New York lost by two or more in 23 of 82. Averaged, Senators -1.5 lands 31.1% of the time against 35.5% priced. That is 4.4 points toward Islanders +1.5, the same side as the pick but under the bar. Pass on the puck line. One bet on this game: the Islanders at +130.
