AFC Bournemouth vs Manchester United Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
Take Manchester United to win at Old Trafford. Our number has them 11.9 points above the market’s chance, against the 5 points a bet needs.
DraftKings has Manchester United at +115, the draw at +270 and AFC Bournemouth at +215. The book builds in a margin so the three prices add to more than 100%, here 5.3%. With that margin removed, the market reads Manchester United 44.2%, the draw 25.7% and Bournemouth 30.2%.
Our number has Manchester United at 56.1%, the draw at 19.2% and Bournemouth at 24.7%. That puts the home side 11.9 points above the market, the draw 6.5 below and Bournemouth 5.5 below. Only one outcome clears the threshold, and it clears it comfortably.
How 56.1% is reached
Each side’s expected goals start from the league’s average goals at that venue. That average is scaled by the side’s scoring rate at its venue and the opponent’s conceding rate at the other venue, both measured against the league average. A Poisson model on the two expected-goal figures then gives the home win, the draw and the away win.
The method switches to this season’s venue records once each team has 4 games in the sample. Manchester United have 3 home league games this season and Bournemouth 3 away, so both run on 2025-26. The league averages come from that season too, over 380 games: 1.53 goals a game for the home side and 1.22 for the visitor.
At home last season Manchester United scored at 1.34 times the league’s home rate. Bournemouth conceded away at 1.17 times it. Together those give Manchester United 2.41 expected goals. Bournemouth’s away scoring ran at 1.25 times the visitor’s rate, and Manchester United conceded at home at 1.03 times it, which leaves Bournemouth 1.58. A gap of 0.83 goals in expected goals is worth more than a +115 price implies, and that is the argument.
Manchester United at home, Bournemouth on the road
The two halves the method uses both come from 2025-26. Manchester United went 13-3-3 (wins, draws, losses) in 19 home games, scoring 2.05 a game and conceding 1.26. Bournemouth went 6-8-5 in 19 away games, scoring 1.53 a game and conceding 1.79.
The other two halves stay out of the number. Manchester United on the road went 7-8-4, scoring 1.58 and conceding 1.37. Bournemouth at home went 7-10-2, scoring 1.53 and conceding 1.05. That home record is Bournemouth’s strongest half, and this game does not use it.
This season so far, outside the method
Seven games into 2026-27, neither club looks like last season’s version. Manchester United are 13th of 20 with 7 points from 1-4-2, 10 scored and 10 conceded. Bournemouth are 15th with 6 points from 1-3-3, 9 scored and 13 conceded.
The venue records the method will use from 4 games are short. Manchester United are 1-1-1 at home, scoring 2.00 a game and conceding 1.33, against 2.05 and 1.26 last season. Bournemouth are 0-1-2 away, scoring 1.33 and conceding 3.00, against 1.53 and 1.79. In our view Bournemouth’s early away numbers would push the figure further toward Manchester United. Three games prove nothing, and none of these counts yet. This season’s league average is also different, at 1.61 home goals and 1.29 away over 70 games.
The season around it
Last season Manchester United finished 3rd of 20 with 71 points from 20-11-7, scoring 69 and conceding 50. Bournemouth were 6th with 57 points from 13-18-7, scoring 58 and conceding 54. Bournemouth’s 18 draws are the reason a 6th-place side sits 14 points behind.
ESPN lists five meetings since December 2024. With Manchester United as the listed home side: Bournemouth won 3-0 on 22 December 2024, Manchester United won 4-1 on 30 July 2025, and it finished 4-4 on 15 December 2025. With Bournemouth at home: 1-1 on 27 April 2025 and 2-2 on 20 March 2026. The method reads venue records, not head-to-head results, so none of the five enters the number as a meeting.
Pick: Manchester United +115
Manchester United to win, at +115 with DraftKings, read 23 October 2026 at 21:30 UTC. Our 56.1% sits 11.9 points above the market’s 44.2%, and the rule needs 5.
What kills the bet
The price. Manchester United remain a bet down to -116, against +115 now. Shorter than -116, the gap falls under 5 points and this becomes a pass. That assumes the 5.3% margin holds.
The other side would need a long move. The draw becomes a bet at +569 or longer, and Bournemouth at +383 or longer. Both are far from +270 and +215.
The team sheets. This page says nothing about who is available for Sunday 25 October. Check the lineups before you bet.
The sample. Once Manchester United reach 4 home games and Bournemouth 4 away, the method moves to this season’s records and the number will move with them.
The total
The total is 2.5 goals, over -155 and under +125. Without the margin the market has the over at 57.8% and the under at 42.2%. Our number has the over at 75.9% and the under at 24.1%, a gap of 18.1 points on the over. The method never bets the goals, so this is for reference only.
The counts point the same way as last season’s splits more than this season’s. Manchester United’s games went over 2.5 in 24 of 38 last season and 2 of 7 this season. Bournemouth’s went over in 21 of 38 last season and 4 of 7 this season.
